Popular Punjabi singer and actor Harbhajjan Mann has come up trumps once again at the UK box office, giving the original Panjab Da Putthar Sunny Deol, food for thought.
Early indications from cinemas in the UK, showing Naksha and Dil Apna Panjabi, suggest the latter out-performing Sunny’s adventure tale by 4 to 1. Click here to read the review of Naksha.
Most big multiplexes are showing Naksha 4 times per day while Dil Apna Panjabi is getting a single evening show. However, this has not dampened the prospects of the Harbhajjan Mann musical, as everywhere it’s house-full. Sunny’s Naksha rarely has more than a dozen people viewing any particular show.
The UK’s large Punjabi community, whom are starved for quality Punjabi films, have thronged to the cinemas to watch something ‘desi’. Harbhajjan’s last two films also performed outstandingly well in the UK.
All we can say is that the title of Punjab Da Putthar has been lost by Sunny Deol… well in the UK at least.
