One of the biggest banners of the industry, ‘Yash Raj Films’ brings their latest offering, ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’, which was undoubtedly the much talked about film of the year but unfortunately their lavish product sank completely and could not raise the spirits as it was being expected to hit the hearts. Produced by Aditya Chopra, the movie is directed by Siddharth Raj Anand and stars Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba and Deepika Padukone in the lead. Without any doubt, the enterprise is packed with the impressive star cast, eye-candy locations and most importantly style, which is in plenty. But this package could just take you to the theaters for the opening day, the following days you will never think of going to watch it again and even you will not be recommending anyone to go and watch it. Thus, this would certainly create a box office disaster for the film. As usually it is the case with most of the Hindi films that they lack the good script, ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ too follows the path being laced with the mundane narrative. The first half nevertheless carries some steam but the second half is totally a catastrophe.
The basic idea, the writers have brought, is appealing but they could not handle the saga. The film talks about the life of Raj Sharma (Ranbir Kapoor), who is a womanizer. The movie covers his life from 18 years till he turns 30. At 18, he is a young boy from Punjab. He has just passed out from school and what is in his mind is only the girls. He plans a trip to Switzerland with his friends to have fun (the Chopras’ favourite international location. And the viewer finds some touch of Yash Raj Films’ Dil Wale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge also on this latest offering BAH). In Switzerland, he meets Mahi (Minissha Lamba), who hails from Amritsar. She is a small town girl and convinced that she will meet the love of her life. And she bumps into the guy when Raj meets her on the train.
Now enters Radhika, who lives in Mumbai and is the neighbour of Raj. She is a struggling model and prone to loud music. Raj falls for her. He gets an opportunity to move to Sydney, Australia for work. He assumes that she will be casual about breaking up, but she is all geared up to give up her ambitions to go with him. He wants to escape from the commitment. He breaks two women’s hearts and leave them behind.
Gayatri (Deepika Padukone) is the next gal in his life. The flirt finally, truly and madly falls in love with this gal, who does not believe in mush and marriage. She is the student who fulfills her education’s expenses by driving cabs at night in Sydney. She straightly says ‘No’ to Raj for his marriage proposal. The heart-broken Raj realizes his folly and plans to apologize with the first two women. He goes back to them.
The first half is captivating and attention grabbing. The three stories are beautifully told. But the second half, where Raj repents his misdeeds and goes back to the first two women, whose hearts he has broken, is a lackluster because it has no life and the script seems to be lacking thoroughly here. The writers wrote the portion for Minissha in an apt manner but Bipasha and Deepika’s portions do not get weightage. In Second half, Ranbir’s going back to the first two women for apologizing apparently look great but on screen, it doesn’t appeal. Had the script been written better, the film would have been a great entertainer for the youth. But now, it’s a strict one time watch.
Siddharth Anand does well as a director but the director finds himself a failure when the script has flaws. Full marks to the emotional scenes, he handles with aplomb. Cinematography is a class to watch and rave about. The eye-pleasing locales are treat. Vishal-Shekhar’s music is ordinary. Ttle song of Kishore Kumar ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ and ‘Khuda Jaane’ gel well with the ears. Rest of the album is a total disappointment.
Ranbir Kapoor appears as an actor of class. Super actor, he had impressed in his debut flick ‘Saawariya’ and now he continues the same with ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’. Bipasha Basu deserves full marks for her splendid acting. She is brilliant as usual. Minissha Lamba enacts well too. Deepika Padukone looks pretty but is average as far as the acting is concerned. The rest of the cast is just passable.
On the whole, ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ does not have any sparks to entice the viewers. Packaged with style, the film offers nothing. A waste of time and money. The movie will see the tough time at the box office.
