Vishal Bhardwaj’s screen adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello has created waves across the national capital of Egypt. The on-going Cairo International Film Fest was all praises and showered awards on the film with power-packed performances and an immaculate screenplay. It won the prestigious awards at the fest and laurels for the Indian cinema on an international stage.
Vishal Bhardwaj was awarded with the Best Artistic Contribution in Cinema of a Director at the fest by none other than the legendary actor Omar Sharif. Vishal on winning the prestigious award said, ” This award meant the world to me because it’s considered more prestigious than the best director award. And I’m the first Indian to win it. And to top it all, it was given to me by the legendary Omar Sharif (Lawrence Of Arabia fame actor).”
The movie competed with 17 other films from many countries like Italy, China, Egypt, Spain, Iran and Hungary. It also won three awards at the Kara Film Festival in Karachi.
