Its not very often that all the Khans of Bollywood find success in the same year. The year 2006 proved to be a year of superhits and many were credited to the four Khans: Shah Rukh Khan, Salmaan Khan, Aamir Khan and Saif Ali Khan. With good performances, amazing box office collections and superhits to their name, the Khans were on a roll at all the fronts of their life. So, lets go on a journey to witness the ups and downs, hits and misses of the superstar Khans this year.
Shah Rukh Khan:For the King Khan, the chase began in this year. The chase after Big B’s stature, of course! The year marked the clash of the titans, i.e., SRK and Amitabh Bachchan. Shah Rukh stepped in Big B’s shoes to play Don in the classic’s remake done by Farhan Akhtar. So, the shoe-bite was evident with Don’s lukewarm show at the box office. Meanwhile, SRK’s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna was a hit and the biggest grosser in the overseas market. SRK’s next release Chuk De! India will have him playing a hockey coach. And lastly, SRK’s big dream of “following” on Big B’s footsteps has almost accomplished as the King Khan was signed in as the celebrity anchor for the third season of the popular game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. Hopefully, 2007 will be better for the restart of KBC as KBC 3 marking the comeback of Shah Rukh on the small screen.
Salmaan Khan:The macho man had a mixed year of sorts. Starting off with his infamous case regarding the hunting and killing of one from the endangered species, Chinkara, he was sentenced to one-yr imprisonment on Feb 17 this year. Later on, the sentence was stayed by the court. Then on April 10, he was sentenced to 5-yr imprisonment int he same case. He was jailed at the Jodhpur jail for almost three days. He got out of the jail on April 13th on a bail. As I said, he’s a ‘macho’ man. Anyways, Sallu baby got a fair share of many big releases of 2006. His movies like Jaan-E-Mann and Shaadi Karke Phans Gaya Yaar were below average at the box office. But, his new release Baabul got a opening opening though it is going downhill in its second week. The real goodie project came in the form of a Hollywood film offer-Marigold- An adventure in India, that he has been busy shooting for. But, it’s Sallu personal that has been the talk of the tinsel town. Of late, the star has been involved in a cold war with Bollywood hunk John Abraham which is still brewing up. Meanwhile, ex-flame Ash made an unexpected entry at Baabul’s premiere indicating that things between Sallu and her are not that sour anymore.
Aamir Khan:The versatile and mega talented Khan struck gold this year with Blockbuster hits like Fanaa and Rang De Basanti, which is India’s official entry to the Academy awards a.k.a. the Oscars. His hit movie Fanaa did well at all the circuits except Gujarat, where it’s screening was stopped by the state Government. The screening wasn’t allowed in Gujarat due to Aamir’s upport of the Narmada Bachao Andolan and his comments against the state governance under Narendra Modi. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan started a newly wedded life with wife Kiran Rao at the start of this year. Though, the biggest news of the year involves him as the multi-faceted actor is slated to play the role of the good cop in Dhoom 3, replacing Bollywood hearthrob Abhishek Bachchan. Now, that will be some movie to watch out for. Right?
Saif Ali Khan:The cute Khan got mean this year with his highly acclaimed negative stint in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara. He got critical appreciation for this Othello adaptation. Earlier, this year Saif acted in an offbeat English film, Being Cyrus, in which he was again appreciated by the critics. On a more personal front, Saif had a rough patch in his on-going relationship with Italian model Rosa. At the later half of the year, Saif and Rosa have been spotted together. Saif is staying close home as he even shot an ad commercial with sis Soha Ali Khan. And lastly, the mother-son duo of Saif and Sharmila Tagore will be seen together in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Eklavya-The Royal Guard, a multi-starrer big-budget venture slated for 2007 release.
this is what we call hypocrisy at best don at 50 crores lukewarm and rdb at 51 super hit kya bat hai i didnot knew 1 crore could make such big difference.
i think 2006 truly belongs to the khans big hits and they deserve it ok hrithik and abishek did well with dhoom2 and krrish with abhi in kank but its been a year that surely belongs to the khans
I totally disagree with the title of this article. Year of the Khans, bullshit. 2006 was the year of Mr Hritik Roshan and Mr Amir Khan. Both had 2 superhits, Amir was seen in the best movie of the year Rang de Basanti but Hritik was seen in better author backed roles in Krish and Dhoom 2.
As for Salman Khan, dude he gave 3 flops this year: Babul, Shadi ke… and Jaaneman.
Shah Rukh Khan had a so-so year. I liked KANK but in some places in the movie, his performance was over the TOP. In Don, his performance as Vijay is unatural but to be fair to him, in view of the ending, maybe this is a good thing. Having said that, physically he is too slim to carry off the role of DON, the fight sequences looks ridiculous.
And yes, the best performance of thie year definitely comes from saif and he should be awarded best actor and not best vilain but all the indian awards are corrupted and commercialised! Saif should be well acquainted with that, having got a highly undeserved national award.
Abhi was excelent in KANK but very disappointing in Dhoom2.
And what about some acclaim for the underated Akshay Kumar whose movies always do well at the box-office?
Hello Every body hru all well i just want to say that all the soofi bros Soooooo……….. Much…………………… Love for the Bollywood Khans and espacially the KING KHAN AND THE PUPPU BACHA (SALMAN KHAN). LOVE U SRK…
