As was expected, Yash Raj Films’ Kaabul Express did miserably at the overseas Box Office, especially, UK and USA. The movie got the weakest opening ever for a Yash Raj Film. The reason is the evident: anti-Pak flavour in the movie.
More than half of the Bollywood cinegoers in UK, US are of Pakistan’s origin. Kabir Khan’s film shows the nation in a grey shade keeping it as a base to show Talibanism in the region of Afghanistan. This surely didn’t sink well with the audiences. Movies with anti-Pak feel don’t fair well at the Overseas Box Office as young Pakistanis keep away from such movies.
The disaster of Kaabul Express was obvious and more shocking was the fact that it got weaker opening than even Neil ‘n’ Nikki, Yash Raj’s worst ever in UK. And in US, it’s better than the worse but certainly a very poor response in the very first week of its release.
KABUL EXPRESS has debuted at No. 14 position. In its opening weekend, the film has collected £ 49,203 [approx. Rs. 42.96 lacs] on 24 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 2,050.
Meanwhile, Baabul is the current favourite in the UK with collections of £ 167,214 on 44 screens, with the per screen average working out to £ 3,800. Total: £ 599,174 [approx. Rs. 5.23 crores].
