The nominations for the 2006 RS Bollywood Awards (in conjuction with Talk Bollywood) have been announced.

Over the past couple of weeks, members of Talk Bollywood and readers of RS, were asked to nominate favourites for a number of awards. We have been inundated with emails and the editors here at RS have been busy finalising the final four nominations for the main categories.

Most of the nominations are as expected, but there are some unexpected nominees.

Rang De Basanti is favourite to win Best Film, but it will receive tough competition from Lage Raho Munna Bhai and Krrish. However, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna is not expected to win this gong.

Kunal Kohli is the uunexpected nominee for Best Director. Aamir Khan is nominated only once, for Rang De Basanti, in the Best Actor category. It was expected that his performance in Fanaa might earn him a double nomination. But that is not the case, and Shah Rukh Khan takes that fourth place, for his role in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna.

Kajol is expected to win the Best Actress award, but she will have to fight of competition from double nominee Rani Mukherjee. Her Baabul role is a late entry. Kareena Kapoor’s breath-taking role in Omkaara earns her a nomination too.

Both father and son, Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan, have ben nominated in Best Supporting Actor category. Both for their roles in Karan Johar’s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna. Preity Zinta also gets a nominiation for her versatile part in the same film too. Konkona Sen and Amisha Patel hoping to spoil Priety’s party though.

Boman Irani and Arshad Warsi are the headliners in the Best Comedy category for their roles in comedy hit Lage Raho Munna Bhai, while Tusshar Kapoor also gets a nod for his role in Golmaal.

However, the most coveted award this year, has to be the Best Actor in a Villianous Role. Saif Ali Khan (Omkaara), Hrithik Roshan (Dhoom 2), Shah Rukh Khan (Don), John Abraham (Zinda), all four will be battling to be called the baddie of the year. The unusuality in this category, is that all four actors are not known for playing baddies in Indian films. All four are top rated actors in hero roles.
