The music company – Tips Music, that was hibernating for a while, has spent the time building up its artist repertoire, and has recently signed on Atif Aslam, Apache Indian and Alisha Chinai.
Tips will be releasing albums cut by Aslam, Apache Indian and Chinai in December 2006, January 2007 and February 2007 respectively. 20 December, 2006 will see the launch of Atif Aslam’s private debut album ‘Doorie’, which comes close on the heels of his chartbusting successes with tracks like ‘Woh Lamhe’, ‘Aadat’ and ‘Tere Bin’. The album includes 18 tracks.
“We have already shot four videos for Atif’s album. The first video will go on air on 21 December,” informs Tips’ Kumar Taurani. Preparations for Apache and Alisha’s album are also on in full swing.
When asked about the company’s comeback with pop albums rather than film music, Taurani says, “There is no difference between film and non film music. Whatever is good, sells. If it’s bad, it obviously doesn’t work. If we ourselves produce worthless content, we cannot blame the market or the people.”
He adds, “Film music is very expensive and since we at Tips are ardent music lovers, we considered venturing into the non film music space.”
When quizzed on whether it is a conscious effort to release the albums back to back, he says, “It is incidental. We have been working on these albums for a very long time. We signed Alisha even before her ‘Kajra Re’ track was released.”
Besides pop music, Tips’ film catalog includes Mukta Arts’ Good Boy Bad Boy, Harry Baweja’s Speed and Boney Kapoor’s Milenge Milenge and its own films, which are currently under production.
