Is Shah Rukh trying to sabotage Bachchan World Tour?
Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan has sensationally revealed that someone from the industry is out to sabotage his world tour.
Here are some quotes from Amitabh’s recent blog entry: "I am shocked and covered in disbelief at being privy personally to a design by certain sections of the media and the fraternity to bring down this show. To kill it, to malign and write it off. This is shameful and disgusting. I have on several occasions spoken of a bias that exists for no reason whatsoever, against us and on each occasion, you my readers, have pleaded that I ignore them for greater dignity and character. But I am compelled to talk about it, dignity can take a walk for a while, because it has already started," wrote Bachchan.
Once this blog entry was published, reporters left right and centre approached Mr. Bachchan asking him if it was fellow actor Shah Rukh whom he referred to in the entry. To this Amitabh replied, "Shah Rukh is a friend and a well-wisher, not just of my family and me, but also of the fraternity and the industry. Also the speculation on the list of names [Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir] is a lot of rubbish. I do not have any issues with any of them."
However, according to a source, Amitabh has failed to explain who has been targeting him. Says the source, “It’s difficult to understand whom Amitabh Bachchan means by the ‘fraternity’. He has issues with Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Is he trying to say that they are out to sabotage his show? Aamir had made nasty remarks about Big B on Black, which Bachchan hasn’t forgotten or forgiven though he made pretence of making up at Aamir’s Jaane Tu premiere. Bachchan and his family don’t like Salman because of his history with Aishwarya, while his rivalry and cold war with Shah Rukh is a well-known fact especially after Shah Rukh ousted Bachchan from KBC3. Bachchan hasn’t forgotten or forgiven him."
Now another twist in the tale… when the issue is further researched we can reveal that a US promoter had been approached by a ‘big star’ to pull down The Unforgettables tour, "A big event organiser in India has tried in multiple ways, to sabotage our shows. The attempt was made at the behest of a very big star. This star tried to schedule his shows in UK and the USA in same cities as the Unforgettables tour, just a month before the tour and at half the rates we were offering. But he couldn’t do it as it wasn’t financially viable. So now the star is spreading rumours of our show in Toronto being a flop with tickets being sold at high prices. Mr Bachchan is an experienced hand at shows and is involved at every stage. Nobody will try to mess with us again though they tried very hard. It’s an expensive show with each show costing over a million dollars (Rs 4.2 crore), while a Shah Rukh Khan show costs just $4,50,000 (Rs 1.9 crore)," said the individual who remained anonymous.

The record for an asian show in the UK is 65,000 people. This was set in 1990 at wembly stadium. No star since has ever got close to this record!
The record for the USA is 50,000 for a show AB did in 1990. Again this record has never been reached by any indian star since.

Toronto: After desperate attempts by the Unforgettable Tour guys to paint what was a flop show as a superhit (a trick often employed in Mumbai with new releases), they seem to have come around to the realization that it was indeed a flop show. Having been able to sell less than a third of the available tickets at the Rogers Centre, there was no question in those present at the venue that the Bachchan magic was on the wane, and largely helped by unrealistic ticket prices and the less than capable promotion provided by the local organizers.
India Abroad received several letters claiming there were not more than 8,000 people present. One letter writer lamented that ’such outstanding artists had to perform before empty seats.’
Roger Nair, the distributor of the film Guru in Canada [Images], said there were a maximum of 8,000 to 10,000 people present.
Peter Fonseca, Ontario’s minister of tourism, told India Abroad that there were 23,000 people present. When told there were reports contrary to that number, he said he would try and find out.His office came back with an excuse that they were misinformed by the promoters of the show Ethnic guru and the number was not from their office and thus washed their hands off.
Mumbai-based Wizcraft International Entertainment, the organisers of the tour, parted company with the Canadian promoters, Ethnic Guru, saying that the latter had failed to meet contractual commitments, a statement released by them in India said.
According to an IANS dispatch, the organisers have also notified Ethnic Guru to refund the money of the sponsors and also of the people who bought the tickets.
And now comes the news that the Vancouver has dropped the Bachchans for lack of box office enthusiasm among the fans.
Well known local promoter Kamal Sharma, who had been handling ticket sales for the Vancouver show, announced last Thursday the cancellation and offered refunds for those who had bought tickets.
“This is a real disappointment for the fans and it is certainly a set back for Vancouver as a Bollywood stars show destination,” Sharma told the local paper LINK. “But there was apprehension about the prices of tickets but I believe it is still a doable show and for the sake of the fans I hope the show is saved.”
Sharma said a drastic reduction in price from the Tour’s management company WizCraft is the only way to save the show. The bottom price that WizCraft will sell the show for is $650,000 but Sharma feels that is still too high and something in the range of $500,000 - $550,000 is what will put the show back on track.
Some people now wonder why there was such an unseemly haste in portraying the show as a hit even by the Senior Bachchan on his website and some pliable media, when it was all too evident that Toronto was best forgotten. It was embarrassing when a blogger wrote on the same website, that he was there and he was a witness to the empty chairs.
A lot of attention is being paid to the local organizers who is being blamed for faulty organization, and an arrogant attitude. A source confided to Voice, “Last year they made a presentation to one of the major Canadian corporations, and they wanted $1 million in sponsorship. And they were serious!”
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty might have something to do with creating this uncalled for level of confidence when he first lent his name to an event that launched the Unforgettable Tour last year where he was present and spoke eloquently of the ‘Miss World’ and her husband, Bachchan Jr. who were present. As a smart politician, it was a great photo opportunity for the Premier, but the people connected with it now suddenly swelled with importance and expectations.
With the collapse of the Toronto show, yet another dream of the Bachchans might have vanished - to host the IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) film festival in Toronto in 2011. In fact, according to one insider, the local agents with the support of some senior politicians were hoping to garner financial support for the festival, selling it as a great PR exercise both within and without the South Asian community.
“If the financial support of various levels of government had come through, they would’ve profited in the millions of dollars,” said a source privy to how government grants work.
Now with so much negative attached to the Toronto opening, it is unlikely that the supporters within the government will be eager to cut the cheques for an event that could put their careers on line.

- Rogers Center, venue for the show at Toronto, was jam packed with 10000 people even before first of the stars arrived on stage. No wonder, by the time the event had reached its peak, organizers had to make space for close to 5000 more!
From a packed audience in Toronto to a 12000 strong crowd in Trinidad, it was an unbelievable experience for everyone involved. The sets and lighting may not necessarily be equated to the ones witnessed in Toronto but the atmosphere was simply eclectic. No wonder, the moment show kicked off, it was hysteria all over.
- However, the highlight of the evening was her pairing with Aishwarya Rai for the number ‘Dola Re Dola’. Ismail Darbar’s magic spellbinded a 20000 odd crowd yet again as Madhuri and Ash matched steps in perfect rhythm all over again. LA was enthralled but there was a lot more in the offering!
- While it appeared in LA that 20000 people had occupied the seating area of 12000 people then San Francisco wasn’t really left behind. At least in LA people chose to occupy their seats and at maximum get into the aisles; here at SF, no inch of ground space was left vacant. So much so that people stood up on the chairs and were seen clapping hard and trying to have a dekko at the stars on the stage.
And it would sound like a cliché if commented that Houston turned out to be yet another madness in motion over the fortnight gone by. Houston not just carried forward from San Francisco but turned out to be notches above that. And of course, Toronto, Trinidad as well as LA. With approximately 15000 strong crowds thronging the venue, it was yet another starry night where audience was the ultimate winner.
People can write all the sh** they want but the fact of the matter is that it is the bottom-line which matters. It is the money which does the talking and ‘ Unforgettable ‘ tour is earning enough for everyone involved.
As has been evident by now, a section of press isn’t been too kind on the global tour which is claimed to be the biggest ever considering the entire Bachchan family is leading the charge. There have been murmurs making rounds that attendance isn’t quite what it is claimed to be and claims of 10-12-15000 people thronging the shows isn’t quite true.
“There would always be negative people out there who would always be looking at pulling things down for others. We have all along being suspecting that something like this would happen the moment ‘Unforgettable’ starts catching on heat. Let them be the way they want to and let people write what they want.
The tour is running into a crazy event by itself. All of them out here are having a whale of the time and it is great to see people excited while they perform. Nothing succeeds like success and they are looking forward to many more beautiful remembrances as we move on to other cities.
