New Delhi played host to Saregama India Ltd.’s (‘Saregama’) new album launch, “Tibetan Master Chants”, by world-renowned Tibetan Chant master, Lama Tashi. Nominated at the Grammy Awards 2005 in the category of Best Traditional World Music, the album features 12 well known, sacred Tibetan Mantras including ‘Om Ah Hum’ and ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’. This soothing and brilliant album is a must have for anyone’s music collection.
The launch of this unique and brilliant album saw Lama Tashi perform some chants to an enrapt audience. Possessing a powerful and deeply resonant voice, Lama Tashi creates extraordinary harmonies as he chants. Additional effects to the record occasionally give the listener an effect of a monastery full of chant masters.
Speaking at the launch of the new album, Mr. Mukul Kansal, General Manager (North), Saregama, said, “Exploring untreated ways and carving a niche for himself with a unique compilation which vied for the Grammies, Lama Tashi has taken monastery chants to an international platform. Liked and admired by His Holiness Dalai Lama for his chanting style and pitch quality, Lama Tashi is one of the world’s foremost Tibetan chant masters. This album has already created ripples in the music world owing to its prestigious Grammy nomination earlier this year. Lama Tashi’s extraordinary chanting abilities led to his enthronement as Umzey (Principal Chant Master) of Drepung Loseling Monastery. He is also the Principal of the Central Institute of Himalayan Cultural Studies in Dahung, Arunachal Pradesh.
Tibetan Master Chants has been created to provide a powerful tool for listening to and learning sacred Tibetan mantras, and to create sacred space and vibrational shifts. Already a hit with the critics, this album is sure to prove a success with the Indian audience as well.
