Mr. Bachchan / Mr. Khan
Published by  Webmaster  at 03:53:05 pm on June 24, 2008

I’ve thought about this issue in the past but have refrained from commenting on it in print. Until last evening that is. Well last evening, the entire family were together in my living room and as demanded by the kids, we had the television on. On television was a very guy-next-door chap hosting a show that used to be special to me years ago. A show that revolutionized Indian television in many ways, but more importantly it had ‘the one and only’ Amithab Bachchan as it’s anchor. Yes the very man, who I am in awe of. I remember watching KBC with Feroz and both of us being completely astonished as to how this Icon carried a certain elegance, class and style while anchoring the show. He was and is the man guys. He is.

However last night, on the same show was another man, anchoring this nail biting show. My entire family, old and young sat there glued to the television. They smiles, they blushed, basically they gave in to the charm of this anchor. The man – Mr. Shahrukh Khan. I sat there, shaking my head in disbelief, admitting to every thought that came to my mind. Yeap, there are only two big boys who can truly represent Bollywood cinema on their individual shoulders – Mr. Amithab Bachcha and Mr. Shahrukh Khan. The two ‘biggies’, and then there is ‘us’ – you and me. Who instead of looking at these two in the way we should, we either fuel hatred towards them separately or desperately look for more news on how they are at war with each other.

THEY ARE NOT AT WAR!!!! How do I know this? Do I know them personally? Did they tell me this personally? Well the answer is a honest NO, but then again how do you know that they are at war? Do you know them personally? Did they tell you this personally? That’s my point.

What I do know is that these two great men, have worked very hard to get where they are. Mind you there is just them two in a very special position. They have not had god-fathers within the industry, they were not born in this industry and yet today they rule this same industry. Everyone else is a distant second. Mr. Bachchan came in to the industry and worked like crazy to get to where he is, at a time when a certain Mr. Rajesh Khanna was supposedly the ‘top’ man. Then again that wasn’t much of a challenge, and Mr. Bachchan was easily mentioned in the same breath as Mr, Rajesh Khanna. But then Mr. Bachchan reached a level where no other star had reached. He was up there. I remember people used to say that he was in spot 1 to 10, and the next person was in position 11. Where ever you went everyone talked about Mr. Bachchan. He got up there for many reasons like his hard work, focus, luck, prayers, etc. He ruled and still rules. Talk to anyone in the industry and they will talk about their colleagues referring to them by their first name, however the man himself is referred to as Mr. Bachchan. That’s the towering influence this man has amongst his colleagues.

Then, decades later came a man, again with no god-father, not born within the film industry. He too wasn’t considered to be good looking, couldn’t dance to save his life, didn’t have a a great body. Sounds familiar? Like a certain Mr. Bachchan decades ago? Yeah, I thought so too. So there comes along this man, struggles, works hard, just like Mr. Bachchan did decades ago. This new chap, perhaps wanted to be like Mr, Bachchan (like all of us wanted to be like). Guess what? Amongst all of us in the entire universe, this new chap got his dream fulfilled, because today when we speak, we do refer to Mr. Bachchan and Mr. Shahrukh Khan in the same breath. Except it wasn’t easy for Mr. Shahrukh Khan, his target was not a Mr. Rajesh Khanna (all due respect sir), but his was the Mr. Amithab Bachchan who had achieved a lot more stardom and respect world-wide. Truth of the matter is, that Mr. Shahrukh Khan did come to par with Mr. Bachchan in terms of recognition and power within this industry. Take a bow Mr. Shahrukh Khan.

They got along too, like a house on fire at some stage, and then perhaps they drifted apart, and so what? Haven’t colleagues been closer and then moved on their different ways? That does not mean it is war? On what ground were the public expecting them to be family? I mean K3G, was merely a film you know that yeah? There is also a huge generation gap between these two men, they mindset is different. One might be more elegant than the other, but the other is a lot more trendier than the older. Take into consideration that their fan following too belong to different generations, different exposures and different expectations out of life, let alone cinema.

Now, can I humbly request you to remember this and not make ridiculous comparisons between these two great achievers? Trust me, when you do such comparisons it does not get to them, because they know who they are, they know what they have achieved and they know the levels of respect they have for each other, and we do not know those things. Instead of comparisons now, instead of hating one and loving the other (which is the most stupid thing you can do), I suggest that even though, you have your favourite, do not hate the other one. Instead, be proud of the achievements of both these biggies and look up to them, and dream of becoming like they did – should you require. I hope and pray that when you achieve your own dreams and get to the top, your fans and the media will not ruin your success by fuelling unnecessary stories about you and one of your colleagues. Instead I hope that your fans and the media, praise and respect your efforts and of course your success.

What do you reckon? Makes sense huh? I used to compare Mr. Shahrukh Khan to my dearest Mr. Amithab Bachchan, but that was unfair. Both of these men, deserve the respect for what they are, for what they have achieved and for being an example of success. So remember, let’s not make fools of our ownselves by either looking to or aggravating stories about a war between these two, and lets not look for stories that state such stories too. Yeah that would be nice.

In respect and admiration to you sirs – Mr. Amithab Bachchan and Mr. Shahrukh Khan.

    Good write up. Personally, I love them both. I like SRK and get inspired by him, as in how he puts himself in different things and works to make them successful.

  5. Good article, very well penned, compliments to you Tagore Almeida.

    Buttttttttttt, I don’t agree with you for Mister Amitabh Bachchan making it on his own and without help to make it in Bollywood. Why???????

    All i can say is that Bachchan was not the star he is made out to be. I have a lot of proof with trade mags which i will provide at some time.
    The first thing i would like to say is that before Amitabh entered film industry it was a family but manipulation started with Bachchan. The problem is people like me know what happened becuase we were there but what comes out after the event is not like it was.
    Here is an actual glace of Bachchan’ career.
    1968
    Bachchan cannot make much headway in the industry so his mother asks Indira Gandhi for help the saying that her son is adamant at being a film hero but due to his looks nobody is giving him a channce. Indira goes to Dutt saab (Sunil) to see if he can do anything. Dutt Saab and Nargis are closest to Indira in film industry. Dutt saab does not have anything but he can’t say no to Indira Gandhi. He gives Bachchan a role in Reshma aur Shera. There are problems as Bachchan wants Vinod Khanna’s role but Vinod is doing Dutt Saab’s Man Ka Meet and is a favourite for him. Bachchan is relegated to the background with a role of a dumb mute but he he is now in contact with the right people and roles are coming. The roles are mainly in small films or side roles.
    1969
    His first release Saat Hindustani is low key.
    Somehow he manages to get Anand which stars superstar Rajesh Khanna. Its a small role but a film with Kaka means in the limelight.
    1970
    Anand releases and does well. Its Kaka’s film but Bachchan is noticed.
    1971
    Dutt saab suffers big loses with Reshma aur Shera, Bachchans first film as hero Pyar Ki Kahani is a disaster, his next where he plays second lead to Navin Nishcol Parwana also does not make impact. Mehmood’s Bombay To Goa does better but does nothing for Bachchan’s career as he just does not look hero material.
    1972
    Sanjog, Bansi Birju, Ek nazar Raaste Ka Pathar bite the dust and how. Its pack up time.
    Now Prakash Mehra and Dharamji are making a film called Samadhi. Dharamji has a script with him by Salim Javed which he wants Prakash Mehra to direct, both are very busy and give it six months to start the movie. Six months later Dharamji is doing a film called Yaadon Ki Baraat which he feels is similar to the Salim Javed scripted one so Dharamji tells Mehra who loves the script to take the script from him and make it with someone else. Prakash Mehra approaches Raaj Kumar and Dev Saab but they refuse. Mehra is in a fix when Pran Saab tells him about this lambu hero who is looking for work. Mehra is not too confident but with a good word from Pran saab, Hrishikeshda and Indira Gandhi, Mehra goes ahead and launches Zanjeer in Nov 1972, it is to be a quickie.
    1973
    Zanjeer is made quickly and it releases in May 1973 and after a slow start it is a hit. This is where everyone believes Bachchan became a superstar but it was nothing like that. What Zanjeer did was give him a life line. Two months later his Bande Haath bit the dust without an opening. Zanjeer was forgotten. Bachchan was not a star yet let alone superstar. Bachchan knows Zanjeer has given him a chance and he needs to consolidate. Around October 73 the Sippy’s are making a very big film with Dharamji and are looking at Shatru bhai for the supporting role. Now Dharamji is fond of Shatru bhai but Bachchan goes to Dharamji and asks him to put in a recommendation for him to the Sippys fully well knowing that Shatru is candidate No1. Dharamji puts in a recommendation for Bachchan and Sippy’s are not going to refuse Dharamji. Its only later that Shatru Bhai tells Dharamji that he was in the running for the role and Dharamji tells him if he knew that he would never have got Bachchan the role.
    But Bachchan is on cloud nine, he is in Sholay and Salim Javed are accepting Bachchan for their films. He has it made and offers come from Gulshan Rai (Deewaar), B R Chopra (Zameer), Manoj Kumar (Roti Kapada Aur Makaan) and others.
    The box office is still not being kind. Gehri Chaal(second lead) and Saudagar flop. Abhimaan does average business. Namak Haraam also does okay. Now the media would like to believe this is where Bachchan toppled Kaka but it was nothing like that. No doubt Bachchan was appreciated in the role but this was not the Kaka of Anand, Kaka was gone earlier with flop after flop (Maalik, Raja Rani, Mehboob Ki Mehndi, etc). Kaka had already been toppled by Dharamji so there was no question of Bachchan toppling Kaka and becoming the No1.
    Media believes Zanjeer made Bachchan No1 but it was nothing like that. At the end of 73 Dharmji, Kaka, Panditji (Manoj), Jeetu bhai, Dutt Saab, Dev Saab, Chintu (Rishi) and others were all bigger then him. Alos you had the white horse Yusuf saab (Dilip Kumar) who was in self imposed exile.
    Bachchan’s biggest strike was to somehow get into Sholay and this made other makers look at him because after Dharamji and Dutt saab he was the only choice for action roles as all the rest were more romantic types.
    Tired writing now and will do some more in the next few days. Look out for.
    1. Bachchan wanted superstar tag after Deewaar and went for kill but fell flat on his face
    2. One of his biggest hits Muqqadar Ka Sikander failed to get opening in places.
    3. Ramraj Nahta and B.K Adarsh the men who helped Bachchan the most.
    4. Losing many battles with same day releases with contemparies.
    5. Bachchan was never off media he was off Stardust which led to support from the other magazines.
    6. Prakash Mehra and Manmohan Desai nearly come to blows with Naseeb and Laawaris

  9. Some real facts and eye opener for all SRK fans and the fact that he’s not he kind of superstar that he has made out to be. (PL. NOTE: THIS IS OUR ANSWER TO THE STUPID ARTICLES ABT QUESTIOINING BIG B’ SUPERSTARDOM. IF BIG B HAS RULED FROM 1975-85 WHICH SRK SUPPORTERS CLAIM, I WILL PROVE HERE THE REAL PICTURE OF THE SO CALLED SRK STARDOM IN YEARS… BY THE WAY, BIG B RULED AND IS STILL RULING AND I AM SURE SRK SUPPORTERS WILL NEVER BELIEVE THIS AND HENCE THIS WRITE UP)

    1992
    SRK MADE HIS DEBUT IN 1992 WITH DEEWANA BEING MODERATE HIT, BUT THE CREDIT WENT TO DIVYA BHARTI WHO WAS A ESTABLISHED STAR BY THEN WITH SHOLA AUR SHABNAM STRIKING GOLD AT BO. RISHI KAPOOR HAS MEATIER ROLE THAN SRK AND SRK’E ENTRY WAS ONLY POST INTERVAL. THIS FOLLOWED BY A CHAMATKAR AND RAJU BAN GAYA GENTLEMAN & LATTER BEING AVERAGE AT BO.

    SUCCESS RATE: 2/3=67%. GOOD SOLID START. 1ST YEAR OF STARDOM!!!

    ============================================

    1993
    SRK CAME UP WITH DUDS LIKE DIL AASHNA HAI, KING UNCLE, MAYA MEMSAAB(HE ENACTED A INFAMOUS NUDE SCENE/PORN STUFF REALLY). BAAZIGAR AND DARR WERE SUPER-HITS. DARR WAS A YRF FILM AND WITH GOOD SONGS, AND LOCALES, SRK BENEFITTED OUT OF IT.

    SUCCESS RATE: 2/5=40%. VERY GOOD…2ND YEAR OF STARDOM!!!

    ============================================

    1994 SAW SRK AGAIN FLOPPING WITH ANJAAM. SO HE WAS STRUGGLING REALLY HERE AND DEFINITELY A SUPERSTAR WAS NOT IN THE MAKING TILL THEN.

    SUCCESS RATE: 0/1= 0%. BIG BREAK HERE!!!

    ============================================

    1995
    SAW KARAN ARJUN & SALMAN WAS EQUALLY CREDITED FOR IT. BUT HE FOLLOWED UP WITH ZAMANA DEEWANA, GUDDU AND OH DARLING YEH HAI INDIA SAME YEAR AND ALL OF THEM FLOPPING MISERABLY. SO HIS EARLIER SUCCESS STARTED GETTING NULLIFIED. DDLJ PULLED HIM OUT OF RUTS BUT KAJOL HAD MEATIER ROLE. BUT SOON, SAME YEAR HE AGAIN FOLLOWED UP WITH DUDS LIKE RAM JAANE (HAMMIEST ACTING) AND TRIMURTI BY END DEC. BOMBED AT B.O VERY BADLY.

    SUCCESS RATE: 2/7 WHICH IS 28%. NOT A SUPERSTAR STANDARD. SO BREAK HERE AGAIN!!!

    ===========================================

    1996
    IN JAN, HIS FAILURE WAS CONTINUING WITH FLOPS LIKE CHAHAT, ARMY, ENGLISH BABU DESI MEM & DUSHMAN DUNIYA KA(NOT A MAJOR ROLE THOUGH)

    SUCCESS RATE: 0/4=0%. A BIG BREAK HERE!!!

    (PL. NOTE: A SUPERSTAR TAG CANNOT BE FITTED ON TO HIM BECAUSE HIS SUCCESS IN NOT CONTINUOUS & WE ARE IN 5TH YR OF HIS DEBUT AND ONLY 2 YRS SO FAR)

    ===========================================

    1997
    FLOPS DIDN’T STOP HERE….HE FOLLOWED UP WITH A DUD LIKE KOYLA AND HIS STARDOM WAS AGAIN IN DOLDRUMS.

    ANYWAYS, PARDES, DTPH AND YES BOSS PUT HIM ON TRACK A LITTLE.

    SUCCESS RATE:3/4 WHICH IS 75%. THIS ONE YEAR WAS GOOD FOR HIM. 3rd YEAR OF STARDOM!!!

    ==========================================

    BUT SOON IN…..

    1998
    HE FOLLOWED WUP WITH FLOPS LIKE DUPLICATE, ACHANAK, DIL SE. KKHH WAS HIS ONLY MASSIVE HIT THAT YEAR. SO OUT OF 4 FILMS, ONLY 1 FILM HIT..SUCCESS RATE: 25%. TYPICALLY UNLIKELY OF A SUPERSTAR. BUT BENEFIT OF DOUBT GRANTED SINCE KKHH WAS A MASSIVE HIT (MOVIE WAS WOMEN CENTRIC). 4TH YEAR OF STARDOM

    ==========================================

    1999

    BAADSHAH WAS HIS ONLY RELEASE AND WAS A SUPER FLOP.

    SUCCESS RATE: 0/1=0%. BREAK HERE IN HIS STARDOM!!!

    ============================================

    2000

    PHIR BHI DIL HAI HINDUSTANI, HEY RAAM & JOSH ALL FLOPPING. HAR DIL JO PYAR KAREGA WAS A SPEC. APPREARANCE FOR HIM AND THAT TOO FLOPPED ALTHOUGH THE CREDIT GOES TO SALMAN FIRST. MOHABBATEIN WAS HIS ONLY HIT BUT HERE AGAIN HE HAD TO SHARE WITH BIG B WHO WAS EQUALLY POWERFUL. ALTHOUGH HE DIDN’T HAVE TO EVEN SMILE, EVEN SING A SONG, OR MOUTH MANY DIALOGUES, STILL HE OVERPOWERED SRK. GAJA GAMINI FOLLOWED IN DEC AND THAT TOO WAS A FLOP. HRITHIK HAS MADE A STRONG DEBUT WITH KNPH AND SRK TOOK A BAK SEAT AS ON A PARTICULAR AWARD SHOW, IT WAS HRITHIK’S DOMINANCE AND POPOLARITY WHICH MADE OTHERWISE INSECURE SRK SULK. HRITHIK HAD EVERYTHING THAT A PRODUCER/DIRECTOR/DISTRIBUTOR COULD ASK AND DREAM FOR. SRK WENT IN DEPRESSION.

    SUCCESS RATE: 1/6=17%… POOR SHOW!!! NOT UP TO THE MARK. JUST ONCE SUCCESS? AND THAT TOO WITH THE HELP OF YRF AND BIG B!!! AFTER ALL PEOPLE CLAIMING THAT HE CAN’T DO WITHOUT BIG BANNERS IS SAID FOR NOTHING.

    ============================================

    2001

    ONE 2 KA FOUR AND ASOKA BOMBED. K3G SAVED HIM…AGAIN WITH A GOOD BANNER THAT OF JOHARS….AND HERE TOO BIG B AND HRITHIK WERE THERE ALONG WITH KAJOL & JAYA BACHCHAN. A COMBINED EFFORT AND A GOOD MESSAGE THAT THE MOVE CONVEYED WORKD IN TOTALITY FOR SRK.

    SUCCESS RATE: 1/3=33.33%. OK, 5TH YEAR OF STARDOM!!!

    ===========================================

    2002

    HTHS, DEVDAS HITTING THE BULL’S EYE. SHAKTI-THE POWER (HE WAS HAMMING AND WAS AT HIS IRRITATING BEST) WAS A FLOP, BUT SAATHIYA WHERE HE HAS SP. APPERANCE WORKED. CREDIT GOES TO VIVEK OBEROI BUT SINCE HE HAS GIVEN 2ND HIT AFTER COMPANY.

    SUCCESS RATE: 2/3=67%. 6TH YR OF STARDOM

    =========================================

    2003

    KHNH AND CHALTE-CHALTE WHERE HITS.

    SUCCESS RATE=2/2=100%. 7TH YR OF STARDOM

    ==========================================

    2004

    VEER-ZARA (AGAIN YRF CAMP) & MHN WERE HITS BUT YLHJK AND SWADES WERE SUPER FLOPS.

    SUCCESS RATE:2/4=50%. 8TH YR OF STARDOM

    =========================================

    2005

    KUCH MEETHA HO JAYE, KAAL, SILSILAAY AND PAHELI ALL FLOPPED.

    SUCCESS RATE:0/4= 0%. BIG BREAK IN HIS SO CALLED SUPERSTARDOM

    =========================================

    2006

    KANK WAS A MODERATE HIT (CREDIT GOES TO RANI, BIG B, ABHISHEK, PREITY ALSO), DON WAS A JUST AVERAGE. UNLIKELY OF A SUPERSTAR QUALITY. I SEE YOU WAS RELEASED BUT FLOPPED

    SUCCESS RATE= NOT ENCOURAGING. BREAK IN STARDOM!!!
    =========================================

    2007

    CDI AND OSO WERE TRUE HITS AND AFTER A LONG TIME, SRK GOT A HIT WHICH COULD BE TERMED AS HIS ONLY FOR CDI, NOT FOR OSO BECAUSE DEEPIKA, ARJUN & SHREYAS WERE EQUALLY CREDITED. NOT TO FORGET THE MAMMOTH STAR CAST WHICH CAUGHT MAJOR EYEBALLS. BUT CDI WAS AGAIN YRF CAMP FILM, SO AGAIN THE PROOF THAT SRK CAN’T BE CALLED A ONE-MAN INDUSTRY WHICH BIG WAS.

    =========================================

    2008

    SO FAR HE HAS NOT HAD ANY RELEASE….EXCEPT SPEC. APPERANCES IN KRAZZY4 (FLOP) AND BHOOTNATH WHICH WAS A HIT BECAUSE OF BIG B ONLY. AND SRK HAS COME UP WITH DUDS LIKE PANCHWI PAAS SHOW ALREADY.

    =========================================

    IT IS VERY EVIDENT THAT SRK’S STARDOM HAS BEEN THERE NOT CONTINUOUS BUT WITH BREAKS WHICH WAS NOT THERE IN BIG B’S ERA. INFACT, PEOPLE LIKE HRITHIK, AAMIR AND AKSHAY ALSO HAVE BEEN GIVING HITS LIKE THAT, SO THEY AER EQUALLY TERMED SUPERSTARS. TO SINGLE OUT SRK WOULD BE A CRIME.

    BUT IN BIG B’S TIME, HE WAS THE ONLY ONE AND NOONE CAME NEAR HIM & HIS MOVIES USED TO DO WELL ONLY BECUASE OF HIM. PRAKASH MEHRA, MANMOHAN DESAI WERE NOT KNOWN FILM MAKES TILL BIG B STARTED CHURNING OUT HITS AFTER HITS FOR THEM. BIG B NEVER SHIRKED AWAY IN WORKING WITH LESSES KNOWN BANNERS AND UNKNOWN BANNERS. YET HIS FILMS DREW CROWD SOLEY ON HIS NAME ONLY. AND THAT WAS HIS STAR PRESENCE WHICH TILL DATE, NO OTHER ACTOR HAS SHOWN WITH THE EXCEPTION OF AAMIR/AKSHAY AND THAT’S WHY HE’S BETTER THAN SRK. EVERYONE INCL. SRK WANTS TO PLAY SAFE BY WORKING WITH YRF AND JOHARS SO THAT THEY KNOW HALF OF THE BATTLE IS ALREADY WON THEN. ALSO THE ACTRESSES NEVER PLAYED THE MAJOR PART IN BIG B’S FILMS. AND IT WAS LEFT TO BIG B ALONE TO DO COMEDY, ACTION & DISPLAY EMOTION WITH EQUAL EASE. THAT IS THE TRUE MARK OF A SUPERSTAR. SRK FAILS ON ALL THE ABOVE ASPECTS AND HENCE CAN’T BE COMPARED TO SRK.

    SRK FANS,

    NOTE THAT IF I START ANALYSING BIG B’S FILMOGRAPHY JUST LIKE I HAVE DONE ABOVE FOR SRK, HIS RULING YEARS WILL FURTHER INCREASE WITH HITS AND MISSES CONCEPT (NOT IN CONTINUOUS) BECUASE HE’S GIVING HITS EVEN AT AGE 66. AND THAT’S THE MARK OF A GREAT MAN AND HE TRULY IS INCOMRABLE. SO THINK BEFORE U SAY ANYTHING ABT BIG B WHO IS A REAL GOD OF INDIAN CINEMA. SRKS WILL COME & GO BUT BIG B WILL ALWAYS REMAIN FIRM.

    HENCE, U CAN SEE FROM ABOVE SRK HAS HAD ONLY 8 YRS AND THAT NON-CONTINUOUS STARDOM THAT WAY WHICH WAS NOT THE CASE WITH BIG B. A REAL SUPERSTAR OR SUPERACTOR IS UNIFORM THROUGHOUT. NOT LIKE SRK. AND THAT WAY, IF U SEE 10 YRS HENCE, EVEN HRITHIK, OR A RANBIR KAPOOR WOULD HAVE ATTAINED THAT MUCH OF STARDOM IN DISCONTINUOUS FASHION. SO MY QUESTION IS WOULD U SRK FANS HAVE GUTS TO THEN DECLARE THEM ALSO IN THE SAME LEAGUE AS MR. BACHCHAN????THE ANSWER IS NO, IF U ASK ANY SANE PERSON.

    what did u think? only u can give the data. not enyone else. dekh tere srk ka poora bio-data chapa hai with real facts….
    WHAT DID U THINK ! ONLY U CAN GIVE THE DATA AND NOT ANYONE ELSE. DEKH TERA SRK KA POORA BIO-DATA… CHAPA HAI WITH REAL FACTS…!

  11. When Bollywood terms success, it is usually looks at the box office, rather than the reviews, so lets stick to that yardstick. Bhoothnath is not a success, neither is Sarkar Raj….both fell way below expectations. Race, JA and even UMUH faired a lot better at the BO. Big B can never lay claim to the fact that he had to superhits such as Chak De India and OSO in one year..box collections and not reviews. OSO was the highest grossing movie for Bollywood in 2007. CDI one the most awards at IIFA 2008. When last had Big B been nominated for an award for acting, not to mention win an award for acting, or been part of a super hit or blockbuster. Black was the last movie of note and then Rani won the accolades as it was clearly her movie. Amitabh and his family remind me of the Hiltons (Paris, her mom and sisters) well marketed but lacks substance.

    Where was SRK when BIG gaven 6 hits in a year. OOPS…!! SRK was looking films of the BIG B and become like him !!

    When SRK was new in the HINDI FILM INDUSTRY en gaving interviews…. O i want to become lijk MR.BACHCHAN, o to work with MR.BACHCHAN is like a dream become true !! bla bla al that shit !!

    SRK HAD BOUGHT AWARDS AND NOT WON !!

    It was a shock at the Bollywood film awards this year to see that a 45 minute performance by this Shah Rukh Khan off Indian patriotism and hockey girls has been given ( buying ) filmfare and actor awards over a solo, title role, career defining performance by Abhishek Bachchan.

    SRk has no dignity. Never did have and never will. I think its his uprbringing, he was never taught how to respect other people or elders

    SRK without media is nothing. I repeat NOTHING!! He needs the media to talk about him and write stories about him to keep him in the public eye. Thats the reason why he keeps going to cricket games.

    If you take the media out and just base his stardom on movies. Then there is nothing much to talk about. All his big films are herione orientated. DDLJ, etc etc…

    Even CHAK DE was a story that revolved around 16 girls.

    He will never be a legend like AB who acheived his stardom in the 70s and 80s minus the media! He had banned the film media for 15 years yet he became the biggest ever star. Can you imagine SRK without the media. It will be like fish without water…

    SRK who cannot respect a legend like mr AMITABH BACHCHAN is bound to be a back stabber. Nobody knows his family and upbringing. he does not have and will never have values bcoz of his questionable upbringing . to top it he is the worst actor who thinks he is above all. there can be only one legend and thats MR BACHCHAN dignity personified and with great values…

  21. Every film artist of this wonderful Industry is an equal and important quotient of this concept. Being a propagator of your country and its qualities can never be a thankless job. It is a privilege and an honour. And this Shahenshah and Badshah ‘thingie’ is just that, a ‘thingie’. It is a juicy story manufactured by the media to titillate and exploit. It has not worked I am afraid and the media insists on pursuing it because an acceptance of its manufacture would cause it to lose credibility, something the media guards diligently. It is a story that reeks of garlic from every pore – it stinks ! For me Shahenshah and Badshah are the titles of two films, nothing more.

  43. The Factonum:

    SOEWAR KIE AULAD !! CANT YOU READ !!!
    HERE THAN ONCE AGAIN !!

    ============================================

    ============================================

    1994 SAW SRK AGAIN FLOPPING WITH ANJAAM. SO HE WAS STRUGGLING REALLY HERE AND DEFINITELY A SUPERSTAR WAS NOT IN THE MAKING TILL THEN.

    SUCCESS RATE: 0/1= 0%. BIG BREAK HERE!!!

    ============================================

    ===========================================

    ===========================================

    ==========================================

    ==========================================

    1999

    BAADSHAH WAS HIS ONLY RELEASE AND WAS A SUPER FLOP.

    SUCCESS RATE: 0/1=0%. BREAK HERE IN HIS STARDOM!!!

    ============================================

    ============================================

    ===========================================

    =========================================

    2003

    KHNH AND CHALTE-CHALTE WHERE HITS.

    SUCCESS RATE=2/2=100%. 7TH YR OF STARDOM

    ==========================================

    2004

    VEER-ZARA (AGAIN YRF CAMP) & MHN WERE HITS BUT YLHJK AND SWADES WERE SUPER FLOPS.

    SUCCESS RATE:2/4=50%. 8TH YR OF STARDOM

    =========================================

    2005

    KUCH MEETHA HO JAYE, KAAL, SILSILAAY AND PAHELI ALL FLOPPED.

    SUCCESS RATE:0/4= 0%. BIG BREAK IN HIS SO CALLED SUPERSTARDOM

    =========================================

    =========================================

    =========================================

    2008

    SO FAR HE HAS NOT HAD ANY RELEASE….EXCEPT SPEC. APPERANCES IN KRAZZY4 (FLOP) AND BHOOTNATH WHICH WAS A HIT BECAUSE OF BIG B ONLY. AND SRK HAS COME UP WITH DUDS LIKE PANCHWI PAAS SHOW ALREADY.

    =========================================

    I KNOW THE TRUTH HURTS !!!

  49. Shahrukh is the Shahanshaah of Bollywood. Big B is only a old and arrogant mn, with a jealous family.

    I remember, that Aditya Chopra, in 2000, returned Amitji to fame with Shahrukh in Mohabbatein, in 2001, K3G, in 2006, KANK.

    Shahrukh has more of 4 blockbusters:

    DDLY
    Chak De India
    Om Shanti Om
    KKHH

    And im sure that Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi will be the blockbuster of the year.

  57. Please dont take personally but can anybody also provide the filmography for Salman khan?the actor who never hesitated working for less reknowned filmmakers of producers,the actor who gave maximum hits with debutant heroines,never has worked for Yash Raj banner.The actor who became the Superstar with his first film in 1989,rated 7th best looking male in the world,started the trend of maintaining physique and now every hero is following him.
    I love both Shahrukh and Amitabh,but just a thought on Salman khan who media never supported and still retained his Super star status.

  61. My question to all SRK fans…

    Where will he be when he is 66?

    Will you guys be talking about him, will articles be written about him, will tv channels go crazy after him, will online forums discuss him???

    AB is 66 and yet is the biggest celebrity in india!

    Comparing AB to srk is an insult to AB and all his fans. AB is a legend.

    Srk is not even the top star today, today its akshay kumar. Even hrithik Roshan is bigger in my eyes. SRK is just media-made. Just look at his TV show, its one of the biggest disasters on indian TV. If he were such a big star then people would be glued to the show. Fact is noone is watching it…

    Noone can touch AB, he was the best and will remain the best. You can combine srk, salman, aamir, hrithik, akshay and still they will fall short to the megastardom enjoyed by AB in his heydays.

    India today has 2 icons today. AB and Sachin Tendulkar.

    Srk is just a star who will fade away like all other stars before him.

    I read your list of hits and flops, you are trying to be clever and decieve.

    you consider JBH as ABs flop yet he has only 1song in the film as a guest appearance. No dialouges, nothing. Just appears in 1 song.

    Why dont you use special apperances by SRK in his list of flops.

    Silsely
    Alag
    I see you
    Crazy Four
    etc etc etc

    Message to Satyam

    boxofficeindia is a fake site which spreads lies.

    Sholay, Maqadar ka sikande and Amar Akbar Anthony are ALL-TIME BLOCKBUSTERS. They are bigger hits than DDLJ.

    boxofficeindia has got SHOLAYS inflation adjusted figure at 162cores. This is false. I worked out the inflation ajdusted figure its over 300crores.

    I even emailed boxofficeindia and they replied back that they will update the site and admitted they have made a mistake, yet they have not updated the site.

    Coolie was a blockbuster had the biggest opening in the history of cinema in 1983. yet boxofficeindia is showing it to be a superhit.

    This proves that boxofficeindia cannot be relied on and is a fake site.

    bottom line.

    AB is a legend.

    SRK is just another star who will fade away like the rishi kapoors of this world.

    his political afflications is wht has given him ALOT of millage, which his film career alone could have never given!!!!!!

    its soo obvious that the reason he is going films left right and centre is to pay back the millions he owes in DEBT!!!!!
    it is only now that he is starting to recover form all that financial loss!!!!
    KBC Resurrected finanically and professionally as well!!!!

    films like aag, nishabt, family and countless others JUST shows that his prime is over!!!!!

  89. The following differences are just very hard to ignore:

    1. Amitabh Bachchan in his entire career had no Solo All Time Blockbuster and Blockbuster. Shah Rukh Khan has 2 Solo All Time Blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

    2. With arrival of Khan’s overseas market opened up first with Salman Khan Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and then with Shah Rukh Khan Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Amitabh Bachchan success was just restricted to India and now that Khan’s has done so much in Overseas that Amitabh Bachchan is also getting recognition.

    3. Amitabh Bachchan was every time overshadowed when He had same level of power performer acting with Him, example Shakti where Dilip Kumar overshadowed Him, Kaala Pathar where He was no match for Shatrughan Singha or Mohabbatein where He had bigger role than Shah Rukh Khan still was completely overshadowed by Shah Rukh Khan, etc. Whereas with Shah Rukh Khan it was vice versa example Mohabbatein where He gave His Career one of the finest performance against Amitabh Bachchan, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham were He completely ate Hrithik Roshan in the scenes which they had together, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam where Salman Khan couldn’t match Him at all, etc.

    4. In era of Amitabh Bachchan there was brilliant writers like Salim – Javed, brilliant directors like Yash Chopra, Hrikesh Mukherjee, etc still he was unable to deliver Solo Blockbuster and All Time Blockbuster. Whereas in era of Shah Rukh Khan there was shortage of good writers and directors still Shah Rukh Khan gave Solo All Time Blockbusters with Debut Directors Aditya Chopra Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Karan Johar Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.

    5. Amitabh Bachchan had an affair with Rekha and never had a clean image. Whereas Shah Rukh Khan has clean image and had no affair with any heroine.
    6. Amitabh Bachchan’s controversial love story, Silsila floped so badly that it had less than 30% audience in the halls on its opening day (most halls had less than 10% audience). Whereas Shah Rukh Khan’s controversial love story, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, broke opening week’s record and has third best opening of Indian Cinema History.

    I can go on, but what is the point. The difference is very apparent in the quality of their achievements. There is a reason why Shah Rukh Khan is on top of everyone’s go to list. There is a reason why people love Him more than Amitabh Bachchan.

  129. “Shah Rukh Khan is Shah Rukh Khan.” “There’s no one like Shah Rukh Khan.” “Nobody can match Shah Rukh Khan’s Popularity.” These and similar statements are commonly heard. And not just in the film trade but also among the general public. What is it that makes Shah Rukh Khan so different from the others of his ilk? Why in the last 15 years have we never had any actor who has had the same fan following and who could clearly step into his shoes?

    What is it that really has made Shah Rukh Khan stand above all the other stars who’ve come after the superstar first made an appearance on the screen in 1992 in Deewana?

    Quite simply, Shah Rukh Khan’s string of box-office hits! One after the other, the actor’s films hit the jackpot with such alarming regularity that in the nineties and 2000’s, Shah Rukh Khan became the safest bet for producers, distributors and exhibitors alike. I use the world alike to differentiate the scene that existed when Shah Rukh Khan is the numero uno and the one that exists now

    Secondly, merely the superstar’s name is enough to draw in the crowds into cinemas in any given day. Today, no hero can boast of such charisma as to lure the audiences to theatres on the sheer strength of their names. Salman Khan’s home production, Auzaar and Hello Brother, could not even manage decent houses on the opening day, leave alone full houses. Aamir Khan has never really drawn initial crowds; his starrers usually pick up by word of mouth publicity if they are good. Even action heroes like Ajay Devgan and Akshay Kumar had had to remain content with dismal opening of their flicks on more occasions then one. But the Shah Rukh Khan magic is one of a kind. Whether it was Aziz Mirza’s Raju Ban Gaya Gentlemen in 1992 or Yash Chopra’s evergreen Darr in 1993, Rakesh Roshan’s multi-star cast Karan Arjun in 1995 or Aditya Chopra’s All Time Blockbuster Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in 1995, Shah Rukh Khan’s first film with Aishwarya Rai – Josh – in 2000 or Farah Khan’s biggest entertainer, Main Hoon Naa in 2004, the two common features in all these hits were Shah Rukh Khan’s towering presence in them and a bumper box-office initial draw. Yes Boss, Pardes and Dil To Pagal Hai made 1997 a memorable year for the King Khan. The following year may not have been as good but Shah Rukh Khan, nevertheless, did deliver massive hit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998. The next decade was equally exciting for the superstar. Josh, Mohabbatein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam, Devdas, Chalte Chalte, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Main Hoon Naa, Veer – Zaara, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Don – The Chase Begins Again is some of the actor’s great hits of the first and second half of the 2000’s.

    Of course, when Shah Rukh Khan has reigned supreme, films did have to face the opposition of video and cable piracy. Cinema going was the expensive form of entertainment for the masses that identified with the Lover Boy image of Shah Rukh Khan. Still Shah Rukh Khan delivered Hit after Hit.

    Yet another factor that went in Shah Rukh Khan’s favour in making him the darling of all sections of society was his unbelievable versatility. It is not for nothing that the King Khan became a superstar. Although he was adored in Lover Boy roles, Shah Rukh Khan never let down his fans in Action films like Karan Arjun, Ram Jaane, Josh and Main Hoon Naa. Yes Boss and Baadshah come to mind instantly when one thinks of Shah Rukh Khan’s flair for comedy. With equal ease, Shah Rukh Khan also played the intense lover as in Darr and Anjaam. For Art Lovers there was Asoka, Swades and Paheli.

    The range which Shah Rukh Khan portrayed in his performances remains unmatched. Today, films do businesses of Rs 10 and 15 crores it is considered good, but Shah Rukh Khan Movie’s continuously do business of 30 Corer’s+.

    Shah Rukh Khan is also the last star to have had a universal appeal that cut across geographical boundaries. Whether it was the man on the street in Ludhiana in the North or Latur down South, whether it was a company executive in Porbandar in Western India or a college student studying in Patna in East India, the fondness for Shah Rukh Khan is the same. Today, a Sunny Deol runs more in Northern Indian because of his action image; a Akshay Kumar is a hot favourite of U.P. and Bihar whereas an Aamir Khan flick generally records dull collections in Bihar. That is to say, Shah Rukh Khan’s charm affected the audiences in the North, South, East and West with equal intensity. Not just in India, but across the seven seas too, Shah Rukh Khan reigned supreme. His super-hit stage shows bore testimony to his immense popularity the world over.

    Today when jubilees are difficult to get, Shah Rukh Khan’s films celebrated genuine silver, golden, diamond and platinum jubilees. Mohabbatein in 2000 celebrated silver jubilee in as many as 9 cinemas of Mumbai, a record unparalleled! From 2000 onwards Shah Rukh Khan has 19 releases out of which 5 of his Movies completed Silver Jubilees, 2 Golden Jubilees, 1 Diamond Jubilee, 1 Platinum Jubilee and 3 100 Days. Whereas Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge turned out to be the highest running movie of Indian cinema 600 weeks+ (12 Years).

    It is not that only Shah Rukh Khan good movies were successful. Even the actor managed to make successes out of ordinary films like Anjaam, Ram Jaane, Army and Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam. Shah Rukh Khan star power can be seen from Super Hit Don – The Chase Begins Again. It was the most worst reviewed movie of 2006, still it collected 51 corers in India and 110 corers Worldwide. Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Swades and Paheli which are termed failures by media for producers, distributors and exhibitors it was successful ventures.

  135. What most are not privy to is that after Aag’s failure, RGV has immediately announced another re-make of Sholay. He has done such remakes of remakes before. In this version, Big B will play Basanti (will be called Basmati and the remake will be called RGV’s Pagalpan). Big B present on that occasion said that during the making of the original Dharmendra’s Sholay (aka Amjad Khan’s or Ramesh Sippy’s Sholay) he used to run around the sets in Basanti’s Ghagra-Choli and Capri style underpants. He has always longed to play Basanti, but no one recognized his anguish till one day while RGV was looking deep into his eyes, he saw glimpses of Basanti in him.

    Here are some dialogues from RGV’s Pagalpan

    Big B (Basmati) : Ha Babu, Bolo Kahan Jaaoge ? Aaage Ya Peeche ? Aaage Ka Doh Rupiya Aur Peeche Ka Ek Rupiya. Abh Poocho Kyon ? Poocho Poocho, Aaage Ka Doh ? Aur Peeche Ka Ek Kyon ? Bhai Agar Peeche Gaye Toh Sirf Peeche Gaye, Aur Agar Aaage Gaye Toh Phir Oopar and Neeche Dono Gaye. Youn Ki Dekhnewali Baath Ye Hai …..

    Oh yes, I forgot this version of Sholay is based in a red light district of Bombay, and Basmati (i.e. Big B) is a street walker in it (imagine the opportunity for a weird get-up). When asked to confirm, Big B said he has no problem eroding his legacy, after all, he said, it is not as if he earned it. He added that he will work for anyone who will give him the bus fare and the lunch money. In fact he will work for free if they also took Lil C in the movie. Additionally he stated that if they gave Mahi, Sachin, Amjad & Ashraf a big role, then he will after the shoot come over and clean the dishes also.

  137. SRK has the look and the attitude of a larger than life movie star. He defines “Star Wattage”. That is why only he could have done the Don remake. Most people agree that the reason why the old Don lent itself to a remake (in the first place) is that the “Star Wattage” was missing in the old one. A Doodhwalah Bhaiya cannot be a Don (just not possible, hell has to freeze over first). In the old Don, someone with star wattage was missing and hence when that was added, a sort of average movie (i.e. the old Don) turned into a much appreciated super hit blockbuster (a fact confirmed by approx INR 500 Mil box-office in India).

    One can make an argument that SRK via Don and KBC 3 in essence has made it clear that whatever Big B can do well, he can do better. These two events are a major set back for the Bachchanista who are hell bent to re-write history and make Big B look legendary or atleast relevant. For the Bachchanistas, Don and KBC 3 is a tight slap across Big B’s worn down face. Consequently Big B now wants to get even. He has teamed up with RGV and has announced a re-make of SRK’s CDI with himself as Kabir Khan. The re-make will be called RGV Ke Chak De India.

    Since no RGV and Big B combo can be without weird make over, Big B in RGV Ke CDI will be dressed like a street urchin recovering from jealousy (RGV’s way to double up on the sympathy factor). So imagine if you will, Big B in street urchins clothes, a bandanna saying Kabir Khan on his head, a tattered kurta, and a hole ridden lungi , with one butt cheek unusually swollen and convex and the other butt cheek eroded by cancer (and therefore concave), singing Maula Mere Lele Meri Jaan. Imagine him doing those delicate hip movements that he did in JBJ (the yeast infection dance) but this time imagine him doing that in a hole ridden lungi with one convex butt cheek and one concave butt cheek. RGV is praying that the Bachchanistas will watch with tears in their eyes, sobbing loudly and pulling their hair out every time Big B yells out Maula Mere Lele Meri Jaan.

    But just like SRK brought his own personality to Don & KBC 3, Big B will also bring his own personality to RGV Ke CDI. Allow me to explain, for a moment consider that Zip Down/ Zip Up scene with Bindya Naik . SRK in CDI had the right amount of “You must be fuc..ng kidding” look on his face in that scene. With his firm expressions SRK says, “You insult me but you insult yourself more”. Now in RGV Ke CDI the expression on a distracted Big B’s face, given his background, would scream, Malaeewalah Doodh (Milk with Cream). Although some have argued that such a modification would be totally inappropriate for the scene or the character or the movie, RGV claims that by injecting a lecherous spark into Big B’s eyes, he is hoping to prove to the Bachchanistas that even at 66 years age, Big B has got it in him. In fact RGV is so sure of his vision that he has altered the lyrics to Maula Mere Lele Meri Jaan too. In RGV’Ke CDI, after the Zip Down/Zip Up scene, every time Big B and Bindya Naik are in the same frame, Big B will bite his lips, and in the background will play, Maula Mere Lele Meri Jaan Par Dede Mujhe Bindya Naik Ke Doodoo.

    So Ladies and Gentlemen, be on an alert, RGV Ke CDI is coming soon to a theater near you.

    People take it in good spirit, Amitabh Bachchan ka JAI HO, hahahaha.

  151. SRK is a fool if he thinks that his name can be taken in the sam breath as Big B. SRK should best be compared with Rajesh Khanna or a Rajender Kumar

  153. The problem with SRK and his cinema is that as we’re exiting the world of those films we find it hard to believe why we enjoyed those films at all at one point. This is the fate of all cinematic trends that are low on substance and all stars that simply belong to their moment and are not otherwise serious actors or stars who can transcend their age. A decade from now if not earlier people will find it stunning that SRK was once big. Much as people today find it unbelievable that Rajendra Kumar was so big once!

    SRK partisans have long had their eyes on Bachchan. You scratch a SRK partisan and sooner or later the Bachchan comparison emerges! Unfortunately, and as I’ve always pointed out, SRK will first have to surpass Rajendra’s success rate (he hasn’t so far) before thinking of Bachchan! Remaking Don, and doing KBC will hardly do the trick!
    Forget about Amitabh guys, even Aamir Khan and Saif (as he proved in Omkara) are much better actors than SRK. It is unfortunate that people cannot see real acting and call stammerings, awkward mannerism and baby smiles as good acting…Laugh out REAL loud.

    dont care if they personally prefer that type of mannerisms but to say that there are no two ways about it or call others fanatics…i mean i say madhuri is my fave. actress of all time but i don’t necessarily consider her the greatest actress ever. plus i hate it when people start equating bo success w/ quality…yea so what if srk’s had successes but doesn’t say too much about his acting…says a lot of his stardom. everyone agrees that gadar is not a better movie than lagaan even though it made much more money than lagaan.

    I still watch scenes from Shakti at least once a month. Dilip Kumar had better dialouges and a better defined character but AB with his eyes and silence stole the show. Watch the scene where after Rakhi’s death he goes and sits by Dilip K and casually places his hand on Dilip’s hands. Pure Magic !!!!!!!

    I don’t think SRK has acquired taste in acting. Most people liked him instantly when he became big. And while he was never a serious actor in my book he certainly had the energy and flamboyance as an actor to do the DDLJ sort of role more effectively than the competition. However he got stale very quickly and the signs of hamming were evident even as early as KKHH. But he still had the energy and the poise. But post-Mohabbatein (and I first saw signs of it in this film) SRK lost his confidence somewhere along the line, a lot of his energy, and if I could just sum it up I would say that his ‘heart’ didn’t seem to be in it as much. I think he then reached the point relatively quickly where he became irretrievable as quintessential SRK.

    Swades and Don to me reveal SRK’s problem as I see it much more than a MHN. Why? Because in Swades he is much better than usual but simply by being low energy and underplaying it as opposed to really turning in a good performance. On the other hand he comes off as a serious hammer in Don where he is totally out of his league. Actually in some sense I think he is preferable in KANK to Don.

    SRK’s greatest asset was his energy. I would add his flamboyance as well. But he never capitalised on these to move into different avenues. He could easily have done more sensible projects at the same time that he was doing a Yashraj or a Karan Johar. And those films wouldn’t have hurt him much as English babu Desi Mem and Baadshah and Duplicate and what not didn’t really affect his standing in those films. he should have courted serious directors far more than he did. To be fair to him the system then wasn’t as helpful in this regard as it is now but clearly signing garbage left right and center because one wanted to build a new house didn’t help! And because he didn’t have any serious competition he wasn’t bothered. But films like Josh or Dil se or even Duplicate (nothing wrong with this one) was the way to go. He would have increased his acing credentials, he would certainly have had more prestige, and some film or the other would have hit the bull’s eye. Doing the ‘different’ stuff after Aamir means you’re already a follower.

    Today I think it’s too late for SRK the actor, for one he’s not going to get the directors who will want to invest much in his reinvention, secondly he is too much a shadow of his old ways to do it on his own as an actor. As a star again it’s been diminishing returns for him and Don proves this far more than KANK for reasons that I’ve laid out endlessly elsewhere.
