Sarkar beats Hollywood biggies in the UK
Amitabh Bachchan headlined Sarkar Raj has made a spectacular entry into the UK Box Office Top 10.
The hard hitting political thriller beat the much fancied American comedy Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay on its way to a number 8 slot in the charts, 1 slot behind the super-hit Iron Man.
Sarkar Raj was released amongst 6 new entries, but held its own to make just over $369,707 (£185,000). Showing on 49 screens, it also managed to bag the third best average of the weekend - $7545, bettered only by Sex and the City and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
The UK Box Office is currently ablaze with top-notch films, such as Sex in the City, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Superhero Movie, Gone Baby Gone, What Happens in Vega, Speed Race, Mongol and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. For Sarkar Raj to beat the majority of these films is a fete in itself.

great opening but it will find it too sustain at the top as the intial pull of bacchans coming together was good but it will subside and at max it will be an above average grosser india as well as overseas.for overseas audience its the shahruk starrer soft romantic movies are best and not many other genre is liked by them as they are served better movies in all other genres with better scripts and production value and starcast thats why even chak de a shahruk starer didn`t doo taht well in overseas as it was new for indian audience but not overseas audience.i think indian movies should not target audience and make movies with thier feel and scripts and stick too our forte romance ,melodrama and songs ,otherwise we will look poor country cousins of hollywood movies and fail both commercially and content wise in movies and eventually lose the texture and flavour unique to us and only as no other cinma celebrate life and movies like we doo.
