Ravi Chopra is all set to make the Indian version of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist, and has casted youngster Shahid Kapur in the title role.
The Bollywood adaptation, which will be known as Pocket Maar, will have the same characters but with Indian names and slightly grown up. The original Oliver is supposed to be the age of 9, but in Pocket Maar Shahid’s character will be 22. The role of the infamous criminal Fagin will be enacted by none other than Amitabh Bachchan, a long term favourite of Chopra. This will be the first time that Shahid and Amitabh will be seen together.
According to an industry insider, “B R Films are getting into movie production in a big way. Ravi Chopra is already busy giving final touches to his next directorial venture Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai. There’s also the two-film deal with Deepa Mehta. His next with Amitabh Bachchan, titled Pocket Maar, will also have Shahid Kapoor in the lead. Both the actors have heard the script and have given their respective nods for the film. Pocket Maar will go on floors after BYBH releases.”
As of yet, both Shahid and Amitabh have not signed up for the film. The other pivotal roles in the film have yet to be casted. We will keep you informed.
