Farhan Akhtar to direct English comedy East Is East 2
Dil Chahta Hai and Lakshya director Farhan Akhtar has been approached to helm the sequel to hit English film East Is East.
Actor of East Is East, Om Puri has recently said, “It’s a sequel to one of my most successful international films, East Is East. Almost a decade later! While that film was set in London and showed me and my screen-wife Linda Bassett trying to cope with a household of hybridized Paki-British children, the sequel — West Is West — moves to Pakistan and a different cultural sensibility,”
However, the film will not be shot in Pakistan because the producers will not get the permission. Om says, “We will shoot West Is West either in India or Morocco. This time the hero, George Khan (Puri) will take his two sons to Pakistan. George’s dysfunctional diasporic family in London has already been torn apart. The children have gone. Only two sons remain. So I decide to take them to Pakistan. The elder one, to get married and the youngest to earn some taalim in his ancestral land.”
According to Om Puri, Farhan has read the script and will make his decision within the next few weeks. If all goes to plan then the film could go into production early next year.
