RAJESH KHANNA – THE GREATEST LEGEND & REAL SUPER STAR OF INDIAN CINEMA.

There are romantic leading men and there are romantic leading men, but very few have taken cinematic love to legendary heights. While there might be other icons but Super-Star- Actor Rajesh Khanna after four decades, he is the ultimate true romantic legend.

‘It’s a crowning glory’

Rajesh Khanna talks to After Hours (DNA) immediately after receiving the DADASAHEB HALKE GOLDEN ACTOR AWARD.

Just hours after RAJESH KHANNA walked back with the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Award. He says that he is honored that BR Chopra has shared the award with him.

B R Chopra was among the panel of judges which chose Khanna as the winner of a national talent hunt contest that ultimately was the first stepping stone towards his success.

The actor was honored with the ‘Golden Actor’ award in the city on Phalke Jayanti.
“Besides the fact was that these Achiever Awards are decided by the film-fraternity it has special significance since the ‘Phalke Ratna ‘ award is also being conferred on the legendary filmmaker B R Chopra. It was my privilege to work in several of his production including the milestone song less movie Ittefaq which was directed by Yash Chopra. Success for me is a journey not destination .”Rajesh Khanna said.

The actor described the award is the ‘ultimate crown’ of his four-decade long career.

“Considering that the award has been instituted in the memory of Phalkesaheb who is revered as the father of Indian Cinema”,’ I feel it’s the ultimate crowning glory to my acting career” said Rajesh. Who was first referred to ‘super star’ by the media. The legendary actor couldn’t help but walk down the memory lane.

“From my debut-film Raaz (released in 1967), it has been an eventful journey for the past four decades. My salute to Dadasaheb’s daring creative initiative which triggered off the cinema-mania during the ‘silent era’ and ushered in the talkie revolution.” Enthused Kakaji (as Rajesh is fondly called by his showbiz colleagues). Departing from the conventional norms where the award is given at an evening ceremony this hour was conferred upon him around 11.30 am. As if to live up to the Khanna’s erstwhile ‘matinee idol’ tag. The veteran actor has shifted back to his recently-renovated bungalow ‘Ashirwad’ on Carter Road which used to be a tourist landmark during his heydays. Khanna also has two maverick movies, Wafaa and Kash mere hote is a romantic-crime thriller with elements of black magic init and he plays a blind character. Wafaa deals with marital relationship. The film is directed Rakesh Sawant (Rakhee Sawant’s brother). In the film Rajesh Khanna is married to Laila who is half his age.
