Ranbir will play Rajiv Gandhi in new film

The first real test for glamour boy Ranbir Kapoor will soon come into effect as the young actor is to play assassinated politician Rajiv Gandhi in Prakash Jha’s Rajniti.

Ranbir’s father Rishi Kapoor persuaded him to take on the role which Prakash explains as innocent, noble, idealistic, visionary and dynamic. “I’d have probably dropped Rajniti if Ranbir hadn’t agreed,” says Jha.

In Rajniti, he is to first play a young Indian student studying in a foreign university with a Caucasian girlfriend. The character then undergoes a mammoth metamorphosis as he’s summoned back to Delhi to take over the family’s political empire after a gruesome tragedy.

The role is dream come true for the actor, who’s currently signing films left right and centre. It is also being reported that Ranbir Kapoor has been approached by filmmaker Karan Johar to play a Muslim jihad warrior in his Shah Rukh Khan starrer My Name Is Khan.
