With legendary rockers ‘Deep Purple’ to perform in Bangalore on December 17, India has suddenly become a hot destination on the musical map. Much to the delight of the Mumbaikars, Canadian Grammy winner Nelly Furtado will perform at the New Year’s Eve along with Punjabi band Josh.
Nelly Furtado has a strong fan following in India that shot higher ever since her hits like Powerless, Promiscuous and man-eater got the Punjabi bhangra flavour to them. Her seeming popularity and close working relations with Canada-based Punjabi band Josh inspired the singer to perform in India. Taking about India she says, “India holds a special place in my heart and I ‘m fascinated by the country’s diversity and heritage. I am delighted to perform in Mumbai and look forward to giving my fans an evening full of great music and unforgettable experience.”
Nelly Furtado along with Josh will perform at the Andheri Sports Complex as a part of Nokia’s New Year Eve’s global shows. There will be New Year Eve gala held at 5 hot spots of the world for the party-animals, courtesy Nokia. These are Hong Kong’s Ocean Terminal, Mumbai’s Andheri Stadium, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro and New York where the gala will be held at five different time zones.
Earlier, artists like Madonna, Brian Adams, Rolling stones et al made a late stage appearance for the Indian audience at the time when they were on a come back trial in their careers. Now, with big names like Nelly Furtado performing in India at the peak of their career, global musical caravan is surely to find India as a good stop-over.
