EXCLUSIVE REVIEW BY HANUMANT BHANSALI

Hope and A Little Sugar takes a con-narrative take on the after effects of the 9/11 attack. The storyline tries to takes a interpret the mixed feelings of a Sikh and a Muslim who shower their redness of anger in their own little way.

Director Tanuja Chandra is known for her added sensitivity and wisdom that she transfers in her scripts. This time though, it is a half-hearted attempt.

Colonel Oberoi (Anupam Kher) has still not overcome the unfortunate death of his son Harry (Vikram Chatwal) during the World Trade Centre attack. A few Americans even called Colonel ‘Osama’ and beat him up for no reasons. However, Vikram Chatwal isn’t given enough space to set his character in the film.

The second important character in the frame is Ali Siddiqui (Amit Sial). He too has a sad story behind him as he had lost a dear one in a communal riot. Ali is fond of Colonel’s daughter-in-law, Saloni (Mahima Chaudhry). The story becomes too sheepish in this portion as Saloni takes just 2 months to overcome the demise of her spouse and start a new romance.
