A gangster’s audacious escape from an Uttar Pradesh jail on Monday is giving Bollywood singer Himesh Reshammiya sleepless nights. That’s because the gangster, Anees Radiowala, was arrested last year for allegedly planning to kill Himesh and director Raj Kumar Santoshi.
Radiowala had recently furnished a bond in a local court for his release but even before the UP police could verify the documents he somehow walked free from Barabanki jail. It now turns out that all the documents furnished by Radiowala are forged.
“Radiowala is a key man of the Lakdawala gang and his escape in such a manner is cause for concern. These gangsters had definite plans to kill Reshammiya and Santoshi,” Amitabh Yash, senior superintendent of police, (SSP), UP Special Task Force (STF) told Mumbai Mirror from Lucknow.
It was Yash’s team that had arrested Radiowala along with three others from Dewa Road in
UP’s Barabanki district. The arrests revealed that they had planned to target Reshammiya and Santoshi for refusing to pay extortion money.
STF investigations also revealed that Lakdwala wanted Reshammiya to favour a particular contestant in a show that he was judging.
However, the contestant was eliminated in the initial rounds infuriating Lakdawala, who asked Radiowala to bump Reshammiya off, police said.
According to Yash, Radiowala’s lawyer submitted bail papers showing four people as sureties and managed to get freedom for Radiowala. “The bail papers were not sent to the respective police stations where the sureties stayed. The police came to know about his release only after he was let off from Barabanki jail,” said Yash.
When the police checked with the four sureties they discovered that three of them knew nothing about standing guarantee for Radiowala while the fourth one was completely forged.
Abhay Kumar Prasad, deputy inspector general of police said they would look into the matter. “It seems that proper procedure was not followed leading to the release of Radiowala,” said Prasad. His other three accomplices Mohammed Rahim Khan, Ishrat Warsi and Namdeo continue to be in jail.
