Shah Rukh and Saif apologise after Filmfare antics

Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan have had to apologise to a member of the Bollywood fraternity after their stupid jokes made at the Filmfare Awards.

Top end film maker Vidhu Vinod Chopra took the proper way of complaining after his family notified him of obscure and unnecessary humour targeted at him at the Filmfare Awards on February 23rd. “Vinod was in the US scouting for locations when the event happened. His family watched the awards telecast on March 2 on Sony and were upset. They informed him about how Saif and Shah Rukh ridiculed him. Vinod was extremely upset. Ten days ago, Vinod Chopra Films, through a letter, has conveyed to the publication and the channel that they will not participate in the awards or give any material belonging to them unless there is a public apology. It is a stand that they have taken because they felt the need for it,” says a source.

The source then goes onto say that as soon as the two Khans heard of this, the apologised. “Saif and Shah Rukh heard that their comment had upset Vinod. So before he could dash off a letter to them, they called Vinod and personally apologised to them.”

Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan are always making fun of people whenever they anchor an Awards show, but this time they did go a little over the top. Apart from Vinod, the Khans laughed at Yash Chopra, Ram Gopal Verma, Vidya Balan and Akshay Kumar. The particular comment that got Vinod upset, was when Shah Rukh and Saif gave out a ‘Na-real’ award for The Come-back Award since Eklavya — The Royal Guard came back from the Oscars unrecognised.”

Vinod Chopra Films have since released a statement to the press… “We are not looking for media attention and controversy. We don’t want to waste our time over it. The actors (Saif and Shah Rukh) have already apologised to Chopra’s family. A letter making our displeasure known has been sent to the publication and channel concerned. Beyond this, there is nothing to say.”

Did you watch the Filmfare Awards and were you a little dismayed at the antics of Shah Rukh and Saif? Did they really go a little over the top or were they within their limits? Should fellow actors make fun of other members of the industry… is this really necessary…? We would love to hear your thoughts. Please use the comments section below to send us your feedback.

  11. Actually Shah Rukh and Saif went too far bcos I practically thought they were picking on Vinodji. But they should be pardoned since they have appologised and the organisers of the awards should take preventive measures in future.

  13. vinod’s reaction was uncalled for because take hollywood 4 example that is how they make d stars 2 improve. so i see no reason why he reacted that way after all it was the facts. dats why d Bachans didnt even react 2 that.
atleast thats wat we call SHOWBIZ. luv u bachans 4 dat and nobody should disturb Shah Rukh and Saif because they didnt do anythong wrong

  15. The only reason SRK apologized, was that Vinodh thhreatened that he would not supply Materials ti FF and we all know that FF do not want to loose such director Raj kumar hirani cause he will direct IDIOT and everyone knows it is going to be nominated so SRK was right when he said “this is the first time i win a movie that is not directed by Raj kumar hirani! The only movie that wins for him his directed by Hirani so it is true!

  21. SRK went to far with his lame jokes, in fact his arrogance and crass bathroom style jokes had no place on this occasion. In the US, the Rasberry (Razzie)awards are given one day before the oscars. His jokes on Vidya Balan about seeing her naked etc, were crass. She some how held back her tears. SRK is no great actor and is only a mafia backed actor. His acting repertoire is restricted to 4 expressions. The film industry should call his bluff and bring him down a notch or two. Its very easy to imitate his stupid acting style.

  27. The jokes were not humilating to people. SRK and Saif did not make those jokes up. Whoever wrote the script is responsible. Not the Khan’s

  29. SRK and Saif’s antics and jokes are really funny and I did not take them seriously and laughed at their commments. Those who are complaining should chill out. About the Eklavya joke what is so wrong ? I thought it was worth it. I would like the team of SRK , Saif and Karan Johar back next year. I mean SRK said something about Yash Chopra for whom SRK is the lucky mascot and Yashji took the proceedings well. So why should Sanjay Leela Bhansali and others make the fuss ? I do agree that if there was some joke where Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s mother was concerned then that is wrong and an apology should be issued and in future let the jokes be at the expense of those directly connected with the film industry , not the relatives.

  37. joke were ok but over all they brough down the level of Indian Film Fare awards, it almost looked like a high school function. Above all their dressing up in the bathroom costumes was the most nasty one. I kind of like both of them and these jokes would have made more sense on a stage show which is not India filmfare awards.

  47. I think they are just doing it all ingood fun. They don’t really think anyone would take it seriously or personally. Though I guess some jokes hit too close
to home and bother some people. Perhaphs they should take that into
consideration. But I doubt they are insulting anyone, except mabye
Akshay(lol), and it’s not even insulting. Dancing at weddings is nothing
to be ashamed of… I think the joking is all in good spirits but sometimes
they might need to consider how other would take it and stick to less
    personal stuff.

Sharuk & Saif rule! And so does Akshay! Hope they don’t hold grudges over
over good fun. Sure they have to compete in the Bollywood industry, but
that shouldn’t stop them from being friends. After all business & friendship
doesn’t mix anyways. But outside of the business it shouldn’t stop them.

  53. Humor and humiliation are two different things. If the objective is the former, all is forgiven but when it is obviously the latter then no excuses whatsoever. Time for SRK and Saif to realise that they can transgress decent behavior in such a large audience and apologise privately. The damage is done and will continue for eternity when captured on camera.

  54. SSSSS on February 22nd, 2009 at 5:20 pm
  55. Seriously, people need to get a grip. The jokes were funny, SRk and saif were entertaining, had amazing chemistry and MADE the show but some people cannot take the truth, because that is what it was, the truth. Eklavya really did come back without an award and onviously he still hasnt gotten over taht. I think people start sniping and bitching like in this instant because they think that being associated with Srk via even negatives will get them attention. Well, there is a reason that Srk and saif are still huge stars. Stop crying over spilled milk you narrow-minded babies
