Rockin’ Meera has been embroiled in controversies ever since produer Ajay Dhama announced the film. Pakistani actor Meera filed a complaint with the Association of Motion Pictures and Television Programme Producers (AMPTPP) following reports of an English film Rockin’ Meera showcasing incidents from her real life.
The film has been written and directed by Dr Param Gill. However, the film is now slated to release in January next year.
When contacted, the producer refutes all claims. “My film is not based on actress Meera’s life. I don’t know how the story leaked, but Rockin’ Meera is based on three main protoganists Sonu Sood, Nauheed Cyrusi and US based rapper Terance Quaites. Meera created all the fuss for her own publicity. The case has been sorted out and we have nothing to do with Meera.”
About the film, he adds, “My Hinglish movie is a typical commercial love story and is based on cross cultural relationships. Sonu plays an Indian prince in the film in love with Meera. Terance Quaites, who plays himself in the film, is also in love with Meera played by Nauheed Cyrusi. Nevertheless, his mother disapproves of their relationship. The twist in the tale starts when Meera disappears just before the wedding night. Terance has sung a song for the film. It is basically a romantic comedy that proves that love can conquer all. My film has a host of Indian and US actors including Debra Wilson, Fatso Fasano, Nicole Cherie Saletta, Sayaji Shinde and Sachin Khedekar. The film has received appreciation at the South Asian Film Festival, at the US festival and many other international film festivals. Rockin’ Meera, which was made with a Rs 5 million (Rs 50 lakh) budget is slated for January 2007 release all over.”
