Shah Rukh Khan is to do what Amitabh Bachchan did last year and romance a girl not much older than his own daughter.
According to our source at Yash Raj Films, King Khan’s fascination with all things Big B is to take him into Lolita territory of incest and forbidden love. For Aditya Chopra’s much anticipated 2008 release Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, Shah Rukh will portray a 40 year-old British Indian recluse who finds love in the company of a 16 year-old vibrant and bubbly Punjabi village belle.
The story goes like this… An Indian man, whose youthful years are residing, returns to India from England to find solace and peace after a personal tragedy. During his short tenure in a small Punjab village, he befriends and falls in love with a girl 24 years younger than him. Conflicts arise and tempers flare when he decides to ask for her hand in marriage. How the NRI struggles to change the hearts and minds of the village folk, and ultimately prove that true love is from God, for which age has no bearing, is the story of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi… God Has Brought Us Together.
For the role of the 16 year-old, Aditya Chopra is rumoured to have signed up relative newcomer Sonam Kapoor. The girl who made her debut in last year’s flop Saawariya was chosen after an extensive search by Yash Raj Films; a search which included various talent hunts staged in Punjab. However, the studio was not able to pick the right actress and, as time was running out and they wanted to begin shooting as soon as possible, Sonam was chosen.
A source told Indian daily Mumbai Mirror, “Aditya Chopra was very keen to have a tall, fair Punjabi girl for the role opposite Shah Rukh Khan. He has himself written the script and knows exactly what he wants in his heroine. The film deals with the love story of a 40-year-old man and a 16-year-old girl. Adi was also very finicky about signing the right girl because he was making his comeback to direction after a gap of eight years and wanted to get everything just so.”
Amitabh Bachchan played a senior citizen who fell in love with his teenage daughter’s best friend in last year’s flick Nishabd. Prior to that Shah Rukh has re-done Amitabh’s famous roles of Vijay and Don for the Don remake and replaced him as anchor of television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. This would be the fourth time that Shah Rukh is to do something that Amitabh has done.
What are your thoughts on this story and the fact that Shah Rukh is to romance a 16 year-old girl? Will this be another Nishabd or will it be done better? Is Shah Rukh playing with fire taking on this role and could it backfire on him? Please use the comments section below for you feedback.

Shahrukh khan did Devdas,do i have to say more.oki,SRK is the only actor today that can pull off what a legend did like dilip saab and Big B!
being 40 and looking young is OK..being with a 16 year old will not look that bad as it seems…
Amitabh was 65 and in love with an 18 year old. that was quite sick.
U cant compare the 2 roles…
i love you sonam
true you can compare the two roles
shahrukh can pull this off in a great way. he can pull off any roles. I mean like king khan who was the first to comment on this topic said it, about devdad. I don’t think that no other actor can pull off Devdas so there is no need to do another devdas!!!
shahrukh can do anything!!!!
Being 40 years is not bed. And in the end of the movie SRK will prove that he is always right. 65 years old should not be romancing on streets and buying cond..s like he did in cheeni kum
waaa!!! SRk u rock. can’t wait until your lovely movies, im sure it will rock .i luv u sooo much. you are the best actor in the whole wide world. and by the way Amitabh is nothig.
sounds like a great storyline, i love it. and please do not compare shahrukh to amitabh. as said before amitabh was much much older than the girl he was romancing. shahrukh looked great opposite deepika who was much younger than him, so this will look normal. nishabt did not. so shahrukh, good luck with this new film- it will be a hit as usual. love u!
Oh, now another thing about SHAH RUKH KHAN, this media, actually, I tell you fellas, this SRK is really the greatest, anyone can do anything, but no one notices, but if SHAH RUKH does one ** particular lobby ** who *love* SHAH RUKH too too much, just in no time they start the discussion, do they have on their mind or only and only SRK, It means KING KHAN is the only KING OF BOLLYWOOD that he is ruling on media’s mind as well. // Now coming to that NISHBAD, oh, just come on, forget it. Is SHAH RUKH KHAN of that age, what master b is? Always remember SRK will perform the best, as usual. Inshaallah…. And please stop comparing him, with master b….
Cheeni Kum was an excellent comedy and I loved the movie unlike Nishabd which was terrible.
As for Rab Ne Banadi Jodi why has the storyline been revealed ? If SRK can act opposite Deepika in OSO he should be allright with Sonam.
The story;ine sounds interesting, Aditya will do justice as a director and SRK will rock with Sonam as he did with Deepika in OSO. Can’t wait for RNBDJ
A GOOD MOVIE GIVE NEW TRENDS SUCH AS CLOTHING, HAIRSTYLE, SHOES, CARS AND SO ON….
MAY BE THIS ONE WILL GIVE A NEW TREND…
ALL GENTLEMEN WORK UNTIL THE AGE OF 40 THEN GET MARRIED TO GIRLS HALF YOUR AGE….
KEEP IT UP ADI…. BEST STORY AWARD
the movie is flop this year becuse srk not do this role beter this is old story i think this movie is flop.
Well we are not sure this is the correct story line.. lets see. i trust Aditya Chopra
I think aditya chopra is a god director and am sure this flim will be a hit.Amitji looks older and Nishbad was not the right movie for him.Jiya Khan was looking much younger.Chinikum was okay with tabuji.Sonam is a good actress SAwariya was just a bad luck.the flim was’nt that bad only Sanjay could have mad it with better lighting.I think sonam’s acting was better than dipika,Still i don’t belive how OM SHANTI OM was a heat while audiance never liked it.My friend circle none of them apriciate flim.Sonam will do a good job,Wish her best luck and also to Aditya coming back after a long break.
SRK is not like todays Aamir or yeasteryeas BigB that he knows how to present his character comfortably & without kiss.We r proud for that & confidently we means me & my college freinds can say he will not break our hearts like befor. We love u very much & eagerly waiting for this movie.
ok first of all this is nothing like nishabd!!!
he is not marriedd.. he is unmarried and therefore it is not bad if he married her..
secondlyy.. a 65 year oldd shud not be falling in love.. ful stop.. especially if he has a wife and a daughter.. and deffinetly falling in love with your daughter’s best frend is dumbbb…!! then why are you comparing the 2… being 40 is completely different to being 65!!!!!!!!!!! x x
This Movie will be Blockbuster
I want to add a comment. It is true that there are many single guys out there who are not married until 35 to 40 years of age. So this may just fly.
Ok people, let’s forget who is in the SRK camp and who is in the Big B Camp.
Let’s discuss the issue and the films objectively.
As far as Nishabd and Cheeni Kum are concerned…. Let’s forget whether is it morally right or wrong to fall in love at any age with anyone half your age, whether married, single …etc.
Let’s remember that they are stories! Stories that are told on screen … that could have happened in real life to someone, is happening to someone currently, and undoubtley will happen to someone in the future.
The two films with Amitabh were certainly controversial and I think he did full justice to the roles. He is a truly magnificient actor who can carry the same basic themes in two different films. Whether you liked the films or not, look at how realistically he played the characters in the same year and also made them completely different. I think it is a sign of a truly great actor who is versatile and unafraid to tackle serious subjects.
Have we all forgotten that we witnessed another story with Big B and his relationship with a younger woman …who was also deaf, dumb and blind!!! (BLACK) We applauded him there …only because we morally empathised with and accepted the character, as he chose to walk away from the relationship when it verged on the unthinkable.
Nishabd is a very dark and serious film and goes into places we don’t want to go into, whether it is morally right or wrong, but it makes us think about these things that DO happen in real life. Cheeni Kum, on the other hand was a contrast with a lighter mood, yet still realistic.
Both films saw Amitabh in a convincing portrayal of an older man’s fascination and love for a younger woman. And remember … the fascination depicted on screen was instigated by the younger women in all these films. Of course in real life, men are usually the instigators. These characters (whether male or female) DO exist in society whether we like it or not.
And for all those people who are sickened by these stories …can I just say …that your reaction is valid in accordance to your moral stance and therefore you didn’t see past the story and how brilliantly the parts were acted out. And also your human curiousity got the better of you and you still went to see the film, even after you’ve read the reviews and storylines!
As for Rab Ne Banadi Jodi … I am hoping that it will have some new angle to it …. but as it is a Yash Raj film … it is going to be their traditional song and dance, sugar coated fairy tale! Yet i’m sure it will be a hit.
Having said that, hasn’t Yash Raj already done this (and a brilliant effort it was) on Lamhe where Anil Kapoor falls for a younger Sridevi and that too the daughter of his first love! Granted that Anil Kapoor had to wear old man’s make up to appear twice the age of the young Sridevi, as the plot was set across a span of 20years.
SRK is a fine actor and I hope he brings something new to the role, just as did Anil Kapoor and Big B. More to the point, let’s hope Aditya Chopra doesn’t discredit his reputation.
SRK is genius, exceptional talent, make full use of his talent and at this age he is not feared to do any type of roles at this age which maybe he had not done in past.Simply he rocks. his magical appearence has bring wonders in everyones life.
