i think it is unfair to compare the performances of actresses…i mean, i actually feel bad for Madhuri Dixit. The poor lady had no background in films and was just 17-18 years old when Abodh happened. then she had some pretty awful films like Awaara Baap and Swati. she was accused of aping Sridevi ! And when Tezaab happened, it was all over…Madhuri had arrived successfully. If you see very closely, the period between 1989-1992 was when Madhuri and Sridevi had a constant shift of crown. It was after the huge success of Beta that Madhuri Dixit took over. She kept her place at the top with constant hits like khalnayak, Hum AApke Hain koun and Raja. Her so called ‘downfall’ in 1996 was a shift of personality. Karishma Kapoor and Kajol were being heralded as the new ‘Queens’. Kajol had two while Karishma had three big hits in their kitty. They were quite close to Madhuri in terms of the gap post the failure of Prem Granth. But then Dil to Pagal Hai was again a resurrection for her. The problem came after Wajood flopped. Had Pukar released in the same year as Arzoo, Madhuri would have rocked on for the next few years as well. Her swan song in Devdas was good, but then she had lost out on four years of good film-making. Her marriage was of couse welcome, but as an actor she missed the golden phase which made Meena Kumari and Nutan the icons they are today. In fact, even if she would have signed Khamoshi, she would have ensured a hit and added a new feather to her personality.

Madhuri should do some serious acting and select a role that will suit her acting caliber. At this age we don’t want Madhuri Dixit to see in the same singing and dancing roles. Actually i loved Madhuri’s perfomances in films like Tezaab, Iztdaar, Muljim, Prem Pratigya..when she was more of an actor instead of star. After her hits the star in madhuri completely overshadowed the actor. Actually i wanted to see Madhuri in a wicked negative role…just like Sridevi in Ladlaa or like Rakhee in Sharmilee.

don’t talk without knowing tony…
Madhuri worked with many directors and her hits were only because of her own talent. Her first big hit was in N. Chnadra’s tezaab, in fact subhash
ghai could never make hit film after madhuri did not work with
him. pardes was not as big hit as khalnayak. It is Madhuri’s
talent that made her the best.
