Bollywood composers copying like mad
Bollywood music has never seen anything like this… an overload of copies… what are we talking about… read on.
Composer Pritam has been accused of plagiarizing a Korean song and showing it off as Pehli Nazar from Race. He was earlier accused of lifting tunes from Indonesian band Peterpan, for a couple of numbers in Jab We Met.
Vishal Dadlani has blatantly ripped of the theme tune of Pulp Fiction for Cash and the song used for Halla Bol promotions sounds similar to Van Halen’s Right Now.
Top flight musicians Anu Malik and A R Rahman have also been accused of the same in the past. Even R D Burman’s Chura Liya Hai was believed to be inspired from Demis Roussoss’ Say You Love Me.
These are just some of the high-profile copies, there are numerous others, too many to mention. What are your thoughts on this open-flogging of plagiarism… do you think that creativity in Bollywood is no more and that in another 10 years or so, everything will be copied or remixed? Or do you think that this is just the selective few, and the majority of music composers do produce quality music? Use the comments section below for your feedback.
