After-all her first mega telly event was a great success. Television stars from her serials as well as other shows turned up in huge numbers. They were all there, either performing on stage or cheering among the audience.
The night was filled with excitement as Ronit Roy set the stage on fire with his opening act. Dancing with the Brazilian troupe on Hindi numbers like ‘Hare Krishna Hare Ram’ ‘Welcome’. Tusshar Kapoor, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Rohit Roy kept the excitement going with their ‘Bad Boy’ Act on Ganpat remix.
The famous mundas of television Eijaz Khan, Karan Patel, Jay Bhanushali, Sharad Malhotra tried to woo the soni kudi Lara Dutta in a fun-filled act that provided the viewers with the perfect balance of Bollywood and Television.
A very special treat- for the very first time the platform was shared by the winners of both Jhalak Dikhla Ja and Nach Baliye – Prachi Desai & Deepak and Sanjeeda & Aamir Ali.
But the highlight of the evening was Ekta Kapoor’s dance with Karan Johar followed by a session of coffee with Karan (of course without the coffee!), where she grilled the director–cum-TV host. When asked to choose between Shahenshah and Badshah, KJo came up with a witty answer: “There’s Akbar coming soon too. So let me choose after that!” “What will be the title if he ever made a serial on Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham with Shah Rukh Khan heading the cast?” Ekta asked. Karan replied: Kabhi Saas, Kabhi Devdas. The next question: “If you roped in all the Khans of Bollywood for a serial, what title will you give to it?”Khan-Dan”, Karan quipped.
Sajid Khan’s witty remarks, as he hosted the show along with Malaika Arora-Khan, kept the audiences in splits.
The icing on the cake was the stupendous performance by none other than the Bollywood ka Badshah Shah Rukh Khan. His first ever performance for a television awards show mesmerized audiences with his reminiscent fauji look. Choreographed by Ganesh Hegde this was a tribute to the television industry and all the leading ladies of television who have created an identity for themselves through their characters they portrayed. The act introduced each member of his Chak De team – Navneet Nishan, Neena Gupta, Smriti Irani, Gautami Kapoor, Sakshi Tanwar, Rajshree Thakur, Mona Singh, Anita, Prachi Desai and Divyanka Tripathi..
Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan who were present at the event were naturally the centre of attention. Guess the couple is slowly getting used to the extra attention they draw wherever they go. Parmeshwar Godrej was present too. Also spotted were Rakesh Roshan and wife Pinky, Suniel and Mana Shetty, Poonam Sinha, Amrita Arora, Aroona Irani, Anju Mahendroo, Preeti Jhangiani, Dheeraj Kumar, J D Majethia among scores of popular TV actors. Jeetendra and Shobha Kapoor played the perfect hosts

Karan Johar won the best chat show anchor award while Shah Rukh Khan was chosen as the best game show host. Siddharth Basu, who put together the show for Star Plus, announced at the function that Shah Rukh would again host the show that is to be telecast soon. The lifetime achievement honour was presented to B.R. Chopra. Ravi Chopra accepted the honour on behalf of his ailing father.
A special global honour was presented to Karan Johar. Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor was also felicitated with a special global achievement honour. Kareena’s tantalising presence in red sari and backless blouse as she sashayed to the stage to accept the award from Jeetendra and Raakesh Roshan fetched loud cheers. Boyfriend Saif Ali Khan was there among the audience cheering lustily.

But overall it was not Ekta’s production house that dominated in terms of bagging awards. In fact shows from other production houses won the honours in most categories. Everyone was glad. And so Ekta, the brain behind this grand event.
