Being made under the banners of Popcorn Motion Pictures and Balaji Telefilms Ltd, Mission Istanbul is an ambitious venture directed by Apoorva Lakhia. His previous film Shootout At Lokhandwala was a box office hit in 2007. The film is being made on a large scale with most of its portions shot in the locales of Turkey.
Vikas Sagar (Zayed Khan), a capable and talented journalist, is undergoing an agonizing divorce with his wife Anjali (Shreya Saran). He gets a lease of life when a Turkish based news channel head – Owais Hussain (Sunil Shetty) offers him a lucrative package to head his channel.
Vikas accepts the offer and does his job commendably well but now he is stuck in a web of controversial people, who won’t allow him to quit the job as he may become dangerous for some sections of the society over there.
Turkish commando Rizwan Khan (Vivek Oberoi) warns him about the consequences that may follow his decision of leaving the place, hinting at the rise of his last breath.
The rest of the plot revolves around Vikas’s escape tricks and his fight for freedom from Istanbul.
