EXCLUSIVE REVIEW BY HANUMANT BHANSALI

After an eventful Taare Zameen Par last week, which passed on a shining message to its viewers, we come across another movie titled Return of Hanuman, an animation flick aimed at the sub junior audience with an unfaithful script in hand.

Starting with the animation, this comes across a mere amalgamation of poor antics and odd lot of generated visual effects which fail to match the expectations in terms of quality. Agreed that the production team may not have afforded to play around with creativity, but a sub-standard animation film will reduce the number of viewers in the longer run.

The kids will identify the stunts performed by the small kid with what they have witnessed in the past, but a tinge of repetitiveness is felt in this aspect. For reasons best known to the production team, the influence of ancestral filmy scenes looks forced as well as non-agreeable. How many kids would identify with the glory of Indian films made in the past?

Storywise, the focus of Return of Hanuman is Minku, a kid from a small village. After being mocked by his fellow friends, Lord Hanuman decides to help to falling kid. After signing a bond with the Gods, Lord Hanuman appears on earth in a cool, innocent and adorable avtar.

The rest of scenes deal the various tiffs and incidents that come across Minku’s way. Post-interval, the film seems to be completely messed up as even the kids in the theatre started snoring signaling the height of boredom.

Accounting the overall duration of the film, the characters should have been precisely defined but here, except for the four main characters the others just wiggle in and out of the scenes.

The story is unique as there is a clear definition of present day scenario and supreme powers. Likewise, the execution gets weak after the initial 20 minutes with the end coming in as a sheer need. Charcterwise, Minku and Baby Hanuman are extremely lovable duos. The scenes between them are well crafted.

On the whole, Return of Hanuman may not be the best choice of animation films but ardent fans of Hanuman may well visit the theatres to catch a glimse of their favourite god on the bigscreen.
