Just before ‘Vivaah’ happened to him, Shahid was at home, idle. Today after the success of two films in a row, (‘Vivaah’ and ‘Jab We Met’), he is still jobless.
“This time it’s by choice,” he grins cutely. “In fact, I am more out of work now than I was earlier. Back then it was not that I had no offers, but I didn’t want to sign anything that came my way out of a feeling of insecurity,” he says.
But now, he is more than secure. “There are a lot of expectations but I am not taking any pressure on myself,” he says. ‘Jab We Met’ is proving to be a turning point in his career.
“I signed it because I loved the script. Even though I knew the film is more about the girl, I knew I was going to be a part of a good film. I know a lot of male stars who insist on getting their roles stretched, but they are foolish not to understand that these things make the film suffer.”
So is Kareena Kapoor justified in saying that it was her film? “Yes, absolutely,” he says with a naughty smile. “But everyone has to understand that no single person can make or break a film. It has to be teamwork. You cannot undermine anyone else’s work.”
