India’s leading entertainment channel STAR Plus has walked away with the top gong for ‘Best Entertainment Channel’ at this year’s Indian Telly Awards.
The awards now in its sixth year, were presented by Sony Entertainment Television and were held in Mumbai’s Chitrakut Ground. As well as winning the top award, STAR Plus also ruled the roster with the ‘Best Actress’ award, which went to Aamna Sharif as Kashish in ‘Kahin To Hoga’ and ‘Best Continuing TV Programme’ was awarded to ‘Kyunki Saans Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’.
ZEE TV must be proud with it also winning some of the biggest prizes such as its show ‘Kasamh Se’ bagging the ‘Best Drama’ beating oppositions like ‘Kyunki Saans Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ and ‘Kahanni Ghar Ghar Kii’. ‘Kasamh Se’ also helped ZEE TV bag other awards. Ram Kapoor won the prize for ‘Best Actor’ who plays Jai Walia in the drama. Ashwini Kalsekar who plays Jigyasa in ‘Kasamh Se’ won the ‘Best Actor in a negative role’. Jai Walia & Bani helped ‘Kasamh Se’ win the award for ‘Best Couple’ as well.
In other awards, Saloni from ZEE TV’s show ‘Saat Phere’ also won the award for ‘Best Female Newcomer. Shaan won ‘Best Host’ for ZEE TV’s show ‘Sa Re Ga Ma Pa’.
Sony Entertainment Television Asia won ‘Best Weekly drama’ for its long running show ‘CID’. There was further good news for the channel, ‘Best Gameshow’ went to ‘Deal Ya No Deal’ and ‘Fame Gurukul’ was recognised as the ‘Best Reality Show’.
ZEE Cinema was awarded the ‘Best Movies Channel’, NDTV 24×7 the ‘Best English News Channel’ and Aaj Tak the ‘Best Hindi News Channel’.
The awards evening was anchored by the leading faces of television – Kiran Karmakar, Juhi Parmar, Anuj Saxena, Mona Singh and Manav Gohil, Shweta Kawatra, Ayub Khan, Renuka Shahane, Karishma Tanna and Gaurav Chopra.
Billed as the Indian equivalent of the Emmys, the Indian Tellys are the brainchild of founder Anil Wanvari, who is also a board member of the International Emmy Academy in New York, one of the few Indians to make it there.
Says Wanvari, “Television is evolving and the awards will also evolve. Our sincere effort is to make The Indian Telly Awards the industry’s benchmark because the awards have been created for the industry to recognise the excellence in the creative, business and technical spheres.”
The Indian Telly Awards will be shown on Sony Entertainment Television Asia on Sunday 3rd December at 20:00 and also on ZEE TV on Sunday 31st December at 22:00.
