DEV ANAND THE SUPERSTAR
To Receive Special Award

The organisers of the Bollywood Awards 2001 have announced that Indian superstar Dev Anand will be a winner at this year's ceremony, picking up the prestigious "Star Of The Millennium" Award.

Dev Anand is expected to fly to New York especially for the glitzy event on April 28th 2001, along with a host of other guests from both Bollywood and Hollywood.

The evergreen actor, whose real name is Devdutt Pishorimal Anand, was born on September 26th, 1923 in Gurdaspur, Punjab.

His infamous style of acting, inspired by Hollywood legend Gregory Peck, was an instant success - especially with all those female Bollywood fanatics. Who would have imagines that Dev still plays a major part in the film industry today - fifty years after making his debut in Hum Ek Hain - producing, writing and directing many films in recent times. His latest effort, Censor, features the A to Z of Bollywood stars, including Dev saab in the lead role, as well as the likes of Govinda, Jackie Shroff, Rekha, Pooja Batra, Hema Malini, Mamta Kulkarni and many more.

Dev Anand's career has been nothing short of prolific, and he is responsible for bringing us such classics as "Hum Dono", "Tere Ghar Ke Saamne", "Hare Rama Hare Krishna", "Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai", "Guide", "CID", "Jewel Thief", "Taxi Driver", "Banarasi Babu", "Johnny Mera Naam", "Paying Guest", "Baazi", "Kaala Baaz", "Love Marriage", "Heera Panna", "Des Pardes"…the list goes on and on!

Throughout his years in the film world, Mr. Dev Anand has never relinquished his youthful identity. He is also a strong believer that interaction between the Indian and American film industries will enhance understanding and creativity. Therefore it seems perfect that he will be joined by the likes of Hollywood action men Steven Seagal and Jean Claude Can Damme at the Bollywood Award ceremony in New York.
