TOP 40 BOLLYWOOD SONGS 2005!

1) Dus Bahane (FILM: DUS)
This year’s Bollywood anthem! The upbeat and catchy ‘Dus Bahane’ became an instant rage amongst Bollywood fanatics around the world. The two singers (KK and Shaan) provide awesome vocals, which compliment Vishaal-Shekhar's foot tapping beats perfectly. Easily this year’s best Bollywood song.

2) Sun Zara (FILM: LUCKY – NO TIME FOR LOVE)
The soundtrack to ‘Lucky – No Time For Love’ is amongst the best albums produced by Bollywood in recent years. The song ‘Sun Zara’ featured twice on the playlist (firstly sung by Sonu Nigam and later by Adnan Sami). Both singers excelled. Sameer wrote the lyrics with élan and Adnan Sami assembler the tunes brilliantly. This song is magnum opus in all aspects.

3) Woh Lamhe (FILM: ZEHER)
Pakistani singer Atif featured in the song ‘Woh Lamhe Woh Baatein’. Regardless of the controversies surrounding the rights of track, this song instantly topped the charts and proved its lasting power by sticking around for some time. It will definitely be remembered as one of 2005’s best Bollywood songs.

4) Aashiq Banaya Aapne (FILM: AASHIQ BANAYA AAPNE)
According to the record label behind the Aashiq Banaya Aapne soundtrack, this is a musical milestone in India. Perhaps the claim is slightly exaggerated, but the title track was undoubtedly one of the biggest sellers of the year. Produced in two formats (the original plus a remix), this is amongst music director Himesh Reshammiya best works to date. Excellent stuff.

5) Kajra Re (FILM: BUNTY AUR BABLI)
The soundtrack to Bollywood blockbuster ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ was a massive hit amongst the audience. Of course, Alisha Chinai’s qawwali song ‘Kajra Re’ was extra special – the song was great AND it featured Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan performing a song and dance number together for the first time – together with the divine Aishwarya Rai. With such prestige, how could the song not feature in this year’s list?

6) Jaan Meri Jaa Rahi Sanam (FILM: LUCKY – NO TIME FOR LOVE)
‘Jaan Meri Jaa Rahi Sanam’ is one of the finest compositions of Adnan’s career till date. This romantic duet featured Udit Narayan and Anuradha Paudwal, who sound amazing together. Amongst the instruments, the dholak and flute make a pleasant fusion. Veteran Sameer writes some captivating lyrics, which soothe the ears. The awestruck tunes arranged in soft rhythm by Adnan Sami leave you yearning for more.

7) Piyu Bole (FILM: PARINEETA)
Melodious and classy are two words to describe the song ‘Pita Bole’ from the box office hit ‘Parineeta’. The versatile Sonu Nigam sounds sublime whereas Shreya Ghoshal delivers a flawless rendition. Shantanu Moitra’s music is certainly memorable, complimented perfectly with Swanand Kirkire’s poetic lyrics. The end result is pure quality.

8) Dil Keh Raha Hai (FILM: KYON KI)
The superb romantic number ‘Dil Keh Raha Hai’ was the highlight of the excellent ‘Kyon Ki’ soundtrack. Featuring vocals by Kunal Ganjawala, lyrics by Sameer and music by Himesh Reshammiya, this song is particular popular amongst the youth market, especially the Salman Khan fans!

9) Naam Adaa Likhna (FILM: YAHAAN)
The soulful track ‘Naam Adaa Likhna’ from ‘Yahaan’ was truly soothing to the ears. The talented Shreya Ghoshal rendered the lines beautifully, catching the rhythm of the song very well. However it was the versatile Shaan who stole the show with his lovely vocals. The poetic lyrics from Gulzar were inventive and well knitted, blending with Shantanu Moitra’s spellbinding composition.

10) Le Chale (FILM: MY BROTHER NIKHIL)
The beautiful song ‘Le Chale’ from ‘My Brother Nikhil’ left a haunting impression on listeners. The touching lyrics are the soul of the song, winning the hearts of the audience without seeming preachy. Three versions of the song feature on the soundtrack – each one a beautiful rendition.

11) Tauba Tauba (FILM: KAAL)
The opening track from the Kaal soundtrack - Tauba Tauba - practically screamed HIT from the beginning! Sung in upbeat vocals by Sonu Nigam, Kunal Ganjawala, Sunidhi Chauhan and Richa Sharma, the track is very catchy. A rap piece, rendered by Bob and his chorus and written by Jeanne, is pretty decent too. Shabbir Ahmad impresses with lyrics and Salim-Sulaiman spell magic with the orchestra. A massive hit!

12) Kyon Ki (FILM: KYON KI)
The title track of 'Kyon Ki' is based on a catchy melody that left the listener mesmerised. Featuring Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik, the vocals are enticing. Sameer and Himesh Reshammiya were hired once again by Mukesh Talreja and Sunil Manchanda to handle the music following the blockbuster success of ‘Tere Naam’. The pair managed to meet expectations and produce yet another chart topper!

13) Dheere Jalna (FILM: PAHELI)
The popular track ‘Dheere Jalna’ from the soundtrack of ‘Paheli’ was very rich in terms of melody and lyrics. Sung luminously by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal, the song has brilliantly penned lyrics by the maestro lyricist-film-maker Gulzar Saab. MM Kareem injects special flavours in his composition to create a lasting impression.

14) Kaal Dhamaal (FILM: KAAL)
An item number featuring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan alongside his ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ partner Malaika Arora Khan was bound to generate lots of hype. Okay, so Shah Rukh tried a little too hard in the music video, but the actual song was rocking! Featuring Kunal Ganjawala, who always delivers the goods with his high-pitched and expressive vocals, the lyrics and composition were catchy and upbeat. A fun track!

15) Agar Tum Mil Jao (FILM: ZEHER)
The talented Shreya Ghoshal opened the soundtrack of Zeher with the romantic tune ‘Agar Tum Mil Jao’. The sweet composition by Anu Malik featured a catchy blend of violin, guitar and drumbeats, which were pleasing on the ear. Saeed Quadri’s well-worded lyrics personified the theme perfectly too.
