MAHIMA
CHOWDHARY
Now a simple role.
Tell
us about your character in Yeh Teraa Ghar Yeh Meraa
Ghar?
I'm playing a rather unglamourous and simple role in
the film. My character Saraswati Joshi is a regular,
traditional middle class girl who lives in a small flat
in the city of Bombay with her mother. She is strong
and independent and doesn't compromise on her values.
Her landlord played by Sunil Shetty wants to get her
out of the house since he wants it for himself. The
film is a tussle over the flat between the two characters.
Where does Paresh Rawal figure in the scheme of things?
Paresh Rawal plays a cop in the film. His role is really
very funny. He's just mind blowing, you've got to see
him in it.
Would you characterise Yeh Teraa Ghar
as a
drama?
It is a drama in some sense in that, you get glimpse
of how tough it is to live in a big and fast moving
city like Bombay. Life here can be really grueling for
the common man. But on the whole the film has maintained
a very light and satirical note. We were looking to
keep the audiences entertained throughout. Hopefully
that will come across.
