JUHI
BABBAR TALKS TO RADIO SARGAM
Robeel Haq Interviews The Star
Bollywood
newcomer Juhi Babbar is genuinely excited about
her debut Bollywood movie Kash Aap Humare Hote.
The actress appears alongside Sonu Nigam in
the film and hopes it will become a surprise
winner at the box office when it releases. The
film is ready to hit cinemas around the world
now and Radio Sargam's Head of Content Robeel
Haq talked to Juhi about her entry in the world
of cinema
KASH AAP HUMARE HOTE SYNOPSIS:
Juhi plays the character of Amrita in Kash Aap
Humare Hote. She's a lovable, although slightly
naughty, girl whose parents were killed at an
early age. After being raised by her father's
best friend, Amrita eventually has her marriage
arranged to a man who lives outside of India.
She is therefore sent to the West and finds
it difficult to adjust to the cultural differences.
Luckily she finds a confidant in Jay Kumar (Sonu
Nigam), an illegal Indian immigrant working
in a local sawmill. The two become closer and
closer, but when Jay eventually gathers enough
courage to reveal his love towards Amrita, she
informs him about her impending marriage. She
must then decide between the man she loves and
the stranger her adopted father has chosen.
How have you found the whole Bollywood experience
so far?
"The release of my debut film Kash Aap
Humare Hote has kept me busy. I've been heavily
involved in the movie and have given it one
hundred percent. I didn't want to compromise
in any department, which also meant not signing
any other projects whilst Kash Aap Humare Hote
was being made. I have lots of time to read
scripts and think about any follow-ups later."
So
you are not in a rush to sign hundreds of films?
"At the end of the day, I'm not here
to make lots of money and become really rich.
It's all about remaining focused and getting
creative satisfaction, even if that means making
one film a year or whatever. I would hate to
be remembered as an actress who spent her career
dancing around trees."
How
did Kash Aap Humare Hote come about?
"I tried out theatre because I had an
interest in acting and I wanted to find out
whether I would be suited for this profession.
I loved the experience of working in the play
Begum Jaan with my mother. Then my father (actor
Raj Babbar) watched the play and decided he
would make a film with me in a leading role.
That's how Kash Aap Humare Hote began".
Is
threatre much different from films?
"Yes, theatre is such a different experience
to being on stage. Lots of people told me cinema
would be easier because I had done theatre.
It was certainly helpful because I knew about
characterisation and emoting, but films are
so much different. It's so technical, like having
a close up shot and not being able to move your
head. In theatre that sort of thing isn't so
much a consideration."
How
important is the success of Kash Aap Humare
Hote to your career?
"Everybody wants their films to become
big hits, but its personally more important
that the audience accept me as an actress. I
have so many role models, from Nargis to Smita
Patel and even more recently the likes of Tabu
and Kajol. I particularly think Nutun had an
amazing career too. They were all individuals
and stuck out because of their talents. I really
hope to achieve something like that myself."
