DIYA MIRZA
Going Places

With Om Jai Jagdish being one of the most talked about movie… thanks to its heavy-duty star cast and also being Anupam Kher's directorial venture, Diya Mirza's presence is definitely being felt.

Alka Shukla talks to Miss Asia Pacific Diya Mirza and finds out more about Om Jai Jagdish and the other films that she is working on.

Om Jai Jagdish is been in news for quite some time now… tell us something about it…
Om Jai Jagdish is all about a family… a family that is very realistic. It is a very modern family where Anil Kapoor plays the eldest brother. Opposite him is Mahima Chaudhary; Fardeen plays the second brother with Urmila as his sweetheart. The youngest one is Abhishek and I am playing his girlfriend. Waheeda Rehman plays their mother.
The three brothers love each other more than anything else… but do not necessarily share the same views or stay together. The mother stays with Om… but that also does not mean that she loves him more than the other two.
So you see… this is a family of modern times…

What about your role in the film…
My role in the film is not a big one but I am always around… my presence will always be felt through the film.
I am playing Tina - the youngest son Jagdish's (Abhishek Bachchan's) girlfriend who is a bubbly and a cheerful girl in the beginning and then goes on to become very mature towards the end of the film.

How is it working with so many big stars?
It is a lot of fun. Because I am the youngest among the lot, everyone treats me like a kid… pampers me, rags me… (Giggles). On a more serious note… it's a privilege. I get to learn a lot from them. I definitely become feel that I've improved on many things at the end of the day. Also I am taking acting lessons from Anupamji. So that also helps a lot.

How advantageous or disadvantageous is it to be a part of such a big star cast film?
I don't think there are any disadvantages at all! The greatest advantage for me is that as a newcomer I will be surrounded by established stars who are great performers.
So if not anything, it will be a great learning experience for me. I have a fantastic director so it does not matter who is in the film and who is not. If I have to do well, I will do well and be recognised for that.

What are the other films that you are working on?
Besides Om Jai Jagdish I am working on four more films.
One is a Gordhan Tanwani film where I am starring opposite Salman (Khan). I play a very tomboyish and a smart village girl! The film is yet to be named. Then there is Dewanapan with Arjun Ramphal and Vinod Khanna, where I play a rich girl and a binding factor between the two men whom I love the most - my boyfriend and my father. I will also start working on Arjun Sablok's film Produced by Ripples Entertainment. It is basically a heroine-oriented script… and I wouldn't want to talk about it now. And finally… I have Koi Mil Gaya, which is again a love story. I am playing a simple salwar-kameez clad girl who has been brought up in a very conservative family. She goes around with Madhavan thinking that it is the guy whom she has to get married to.

What are your future plans?
Become a better actress… and give in the best that I have. That's it.
