AMITABH
BACHCHAN
Confesses To Radio Sargam
I
have always looked at every day as it comes.
I look at the days and not the year as a whole
it is the days that make a year. If the days
are good, the year is good -- simple. That way,
the year 2000 is of great significance to me,
and is in a way, a year of resurrection.
For
one, I got to be a part of one of the biggest
hits, Mohabbatein and for another, it was the
year of the biggest game show on Indian television,
KBC.
Mohabbatein
was a great feeling and when Narayan Shankar
became a household name, I felt young all over
again. It also felt wonderful to be in the Chopra
camp after nearly two decades Working with Adi
(Chopra) has been equally wonderful. And now,
it is a fantastic experience to be directed
by a boy who grew in front of my own eyes!
Mohabbatein was nothing different in the sense
that I give my best to every role I play
Here, it felt great as this role was written
for me. Mohabbatein gave my career a fresh lease
of life. And that makes all the difference.
Today
the directors will be more willing to offer
me good roles.
Coming to KBC, it is another landmark in my
life today. A move where I went small and grew
big again! When I was first approached for the
show, I was very apprehensive of coming down
to the small screen. As a part of their coaxing
programme, Star Plus flew me down to London
to watch the shooting of the original. It seemed
great so I thought of going for it. And fortunately
for me
and Siddharth Basu, things have
worked fantastically well.
The
biggest difference between doing films and this
show is that there is the absence of the script.
Here I am, I , me and myself holding the show
for an hour with no script to support me. Except
for the first bit where I give the sermon, there's
no script in KBC. That is why, doing a show
like KBC is thousand times difficult than doing
a film. The camera is on you all the while.
Here I have to be very alert, and also not be
conscious
I have to remain at ease and
make the participant feel comfortable.
The
best part is the reactions I get from people
with whom I talk on the phone. It is really
touching to see the love and the respect that
I get from them. To me, the amazing part of
TV what I think was a revelation to me was its
immense reach. So many people across so many
countries get connected to a show at the same
time and that's more interesting to me. In films,
all I have to do is to say everything that the
writer asks me to. In that sense, all this si
very different and interesting too.
On
Abhishek Bachchan
My parents for that matter
they are in
their nineties, but they are very protective
about me! I guess Jaya and I too share the same
feeling for Abhishek. However, Abhishek is a
loner of a kind. He prefers to be in his own
small world and make his own decisions. As a
matter of fact, so far he has never come to
us to seek any guidance in terms of acting.
I think he has to be left alone and since he
has a long way to go, the best way is to leave
him on his own!
On
being waxed at the Madame Tussaud's
It is a great achievement! Not for me as a person
though, but for the entire film industry. I
think it has been the love and the respect of
the audience here that I have been able to achieve
all this. Without them, I would never be where
I am.
