FAIRGLOW ZEE CINE AWARDS 2002
Does Lagaan Take It Away?

It's that time of year for all those Bollywood stars to dig out their favourite clothes, get dolled up and prepare themselves for the awards season.

The season kicked off in fine form with the Zee Cine Awards, at the Centaur Hotel in Juhu, Mumbai.

Plenty of A-list stars were present on the night, with some top performances from the likes of Kareena Kapoor (who performed a medley of songs with an amazing response from the audience) and Raveena Tandon (who looked gorgeous and put on a great performance too).

The big winner of the night was undoubtedly the best movie that the industry has produced for a while - Lagaan. Before the night was over, the film managed to pick up the awards for Best Actor, Best Director, Best Film, Best Music and Best Debut (Female).

The main shocker of the evening was that Tusshar Kapoor won for Best Male Debut, when many had predicted that Arjun Rampal would walk away with the honours.

The winners at the Zee Cine Awards are always a good indication about whose going to be taking the major gongs at all the other awards ceremonies to come, such as Screen and Filmfare.

Here is the list of winners in all the major categories:

BEST FILM: Lagaan
Best Director: Ashutosh Gowarikar (Lagaan)
Best Actor: Aamir Khan (Lagaan)
Best Actress: Tabu (Chandni Bar)
Best Supporting Actor: Saif Ali Khan (Dil Chahta Hai)
Best Supporting Actress: Madhuri Dixit (Lajja)
Outstanding Performance (Male): Sunny Deol (Gadar)
Outstanding Performance (Female): Kajol (K3G)
Best Male Debut: Tusshar Kapoor (Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai)
Best Female Debut: Gracy Singh (Lagaan)
Best Music Director: A. R. Rahman (Lagaan)
