RADIO SARGAM SPECIAL REPORT:
SHAH RUKH AND ARYAN WATCH LONDON STAGE SHOW!

On Monday, 16th May 2005, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales and The
Duchess of Cornwall graced the red carpet at the Shaftesbury Theatre in
their first-ever public engagement since their marriage in April 2005 for
the charity gala performance of the hit West End musical, The Far Pavilions,
raising in excess of £75,000 in aid of HRH The Prince of Wales’s Initiative
in India.

London’s high society and the glitterati of Indian cinema joined the royal
couple in the name of charity to add even more glamour to this West End
production. The guest-list included Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan,
actress Juhi Chawla, filmmaker Subhash Ghai and British Asian actor and
writer Sanjeev Bhaskar.

The audience welcomed the arrival of HRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess
of Cornwall to a special rendition of the National Anthem featuring the
Sarangi and Indian percussion. The idea to contribute to this special
arrangement of the National Anthem came from John Cameron (reknown
orchestrator of Les Miserables) Kuljit Bhamra and Kamalbir Singh Chandra who
also performed Mahatma Ghandi-Ji’s favourite Bhajan to the obvious delight
of the Prince and Duchess.

After the show, the cast of The Far Pavilions were congratulated
individually by Their Royal Highnesses, the Duchess of Cornwall confirming
that The Far Pavilions was her favourite book.
