K3G: EXCLUSIVE DETAILS ONLY ON RADIOSARGAM.COM
Secrets From This Karan Johar flick...

Undoubtedly the costliest Hindi film ever made, Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham… will open all over the world on 14th December.

Estimated to have cost producer Yash Johar Rs. 350 million, it will be released with approximately 600 prints which will entail an additional expenditure of Rs. 50 million (since the film is lengthy, every print will cost Rs. 85,000 to make). About Rs. 20 million is being spent on publicity of the Amitabh - Jaya - Shah Rukh - Kajol - Hrithik - Kareena starrer. Which means, Rs. 420 million are at stake in the last big release of the year 2001.

The hype and hoopla surrounding K3G are high; the hopes and expectations are higher still.

What is Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham…? While the review will be up at release time, here's a preview of only the highlights of the first release of Karan after the blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai...

Ø It has Kajol in, perhaps, her career's best performance. The actress plays a Chandni Chowk (Delhi) girl who talks like a typical Punjabi female would. For eg. Khana-shana kha lo, dekhna-shekna khatam hua etc. She will have the audience in splits whenever she comes on the scene - except, of course, in emotional scenes when she will make people cry.

Ø Shah Rukh Khan is simply fantastic. The guy makes you laugh like crazy in light scenes and weep buckets in emotional ones. He has excelled himself! The chemistry between SRK and Kajol is REMARKABLE.

Ø Kareena Kapoor will become a darling of the masses after this film. She plays a typical college-going modern lass with loads of attitude. Her clothes reveal her sex appeal as never before, and her scenes exhibit her talent, again as never before. Her name is Poo, short for Pooja. How do you like that?

Ø Hrithik Roshan looks deadly. The handsome hunk also dances just too gracefully. He emotes beautifully in the scene in which he hugs SRK and breaks down emotionally, begging of his elder brother to return home.

Ø The last scene belongs to Amitabh Bachchan. Even the stone-hearted will find it almost impossible to control their tears in the climax scene.

Ø Jaya Bachchan has a meatier role than Amitabh and the lady is brilliantly restrained.

Ø On screen, the songs which stand out are Bole chudiyan, Keh do na you are my Soniya and Shaava Shaava. What comes after Shaava Shaava is a cute gimmick which will bring the house down with applause.

Ø Parzan Dastur, the Sardar-kid of KKHH, is seen in a small scene in this film.

Ø Karan's balancing of six huge stars is praiseworthy. Firstly, to assemble such a starcast and then to do justice to their towering presence are no easy jobs. But kudos to the young director who has done both the tasks with the ease of a veteran or seasoned player.

Ø The news that Hrithik's entry is after interval is false. The film opens with heartthrob Hrithik. Yes, he is there in the first half in only a few scenes but post-interval, he is there throughout.

Ø The scenes between Kajol and an English lady (in London) will have the people in splits. Of these, the best is the scene between them at the school function.

Ø Young Hrithik Roshan (a roly poly guy) is just too cute. His scenes with young Kareena Kapoor and her friends are hilarious.

Ø Sets are mind-boggling. Costumes are wow!

Ø Kareena Kapoor's introduction is the best entry in the film.

Trial shows of the film are being held in Bombay and, currently, you are deemed to be 'in' if and only if you've been invited for a preview show of the most anticipated film of the year. On Thursday (6th December), Karan's socialite and filmi friends like Yash Birla (of the Birla business empire), Kajal Anand, actresses Neelam, Urmila Matondkar, Malaika Arora, actor Arbaaz Khan etc. saw the film.

On Saturday (8th), the preview show was a star-studded affair. There were Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, Hema Malini with daughter Esha Deol, Madhuri Dixit, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, Aftab Shivdasani, Shilpa Shetty and Kumarmangalam Birla. Dinner is served in the interval in every 9 p.m. show - a first for preview shows. Usually, snacks and cold-drinks/tea/coffee are served.

Others who've laughed and cried in the movie are Rishi Kapoor, Babita, Randhir Kapoor, Jeetendra, Prem Chopra, Vashu Bhagnani…… the list is fairly long.
