REPORT: RADIO SARGAM AT IIFA 2005, AMSTERDAM!
After
an action packed weekend, the spectacular Samsung IIFA Awards Amsterdam
were held at the Amsterdam ArenA as the biggest stars of Indian cinema
performed for an audience of over 10,000 fans from across the world.
Nostalgia and superstardom created a heady combination as the charismatic
superstar -Shahrukh Khan compered the spectacular awards ceremony, with
Karan Johar and Fardeen Khan.
The IIFA
weekend in Amsterdam reached its zenith with the Grand Finale - the
Samsung IIFA Awards ceremony, which witnessed dazzling performances
by the likes of Aishwarya Rai, Salman Khan, Malaika Arora Khan, Amrita
Arora, Esha Deol, Isha Sharwani, Shahid Kapoor- Kareena Kapoor, the
star cast of film Chocolate and international pop sensations Bombay
Rockers and Rouge. The grand finale performance was Abhishek Bachchan’s
first ever international performance. He was joined on stage by Aishwarya
Rai and as a special surprise by his father Amitabh Bachchan. The Samsung
IIFA Awards was inaugurated by IIFA Brand Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan
and the Mayor of Amsterdam, Mr. Job Cohen.
The
Samsung IIFA Awards Amsterdam marked IIFA’s association with the
beautiful city of Amsterdam and its exquisite people. Joining IIFA in
making the Awards a stupendous success was the I-amsterdam campaign
and of course the warm people of Amsterdam. The Samsung IIFA Awards
Amsterdam was held at the spectacular Amsterdam ArenA, Amsterdam’s
most definitive multi-purpose indoor entertainment arena that seated
over 10,000 guests who traveled from all over the world, including stars
from international and Indian cinema and the faces of India, including
sports stars, government leaders and who’s who from the Indian
and Dutch corporate world.
The
Special attraction this year at the Red carpet was the fashions especially
created by designers Anna Singh, Vikram Phadnis and Manish Malhotra.
The diamond jewelry was courtesy D’damas, the premium lifestyle
Jewellery brand, which is also the largest retailing jewellery brand
chain in the Middle East, and was the Associate Sponsor.
The
IIFA weekend was replete with a host of exhilarating events like the
FICCI-IIFA Global Business Forum, the IIFA Film Festival, the star studded
IIFA Foundation Celebrity Cricket Match and the IIFA World premiere
of Parineeta.

The exciting IIFA Foundation Celebrity Cricket Match was held
at the Olympic Stadium, Amsterdam. The Celebrity Cricket Match, conceptualized
by Wizcraft International Entertainment, saw the Best of Indian cinema
–clash on the cricketing titans at the Shah Rukh Khan XI vs. Hrithik
Roshan XI cricket match. Hritik Roshan’s team went on to win the
match and the trophy. The match was held to raise funds to provide relief
to bereaved families of behind the scenes crew members who have suffered
misfortune during the course of shooting.
• IIFA World Premiere of Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘Parineeta’
starring Sanjay Dutt, Saif Ali Khan, Diya Mirza, Raima Sen and debutante
Vidya Balan. ‘Parineeta’ premiered before a global audience
at the 650 year old Pathe Tuschinski theatre in Amsterdam. Thousands
of fans cheered and applauded the stars on the celebrity-studded red
carpet.
• The second day of the weekend saw the FICCI-IIFA Global Business
Forum witnessing a gathering of esteemed Indian and International
business tycoons from the world of cinema, entertainment, aviation and
tourism. The business forum was a place for ideation and new trade and
commerce ties between India and the Netherlands.
Samsung
IIFA Awards Amsterdam will be broadcast across the globe via STAR TV,
India’s preferred Hindi general entertainment channel on June 26th
2005. The channel will also telecast this mega-event through interesting
and exciting episodes over all weekends starting 11th June 2005. The
episodes will include capsules on the nominees, a flashback, a prelude,
the action and fashions from the red carpet, the Samsung IIFA Awards
presentation ceremony and the action at the IIFA Weekend in Amsterdam.
Launched
five years ago at the Millennium Dome, London, the presentation ceremony
has grown into a four-day extravaganza – the IIFA Weekend - showcasing
the best of Indian cinema and providing a platform for interaction with
global media. The Samsung IIFA Awards Amsterdam, which was held today
in Amsterdam, was a salutation to the world’s largest film industry.
