LATEST ON BOLLYWOOD AWARDS 2001
American Desi Cast To Attend Awards
The countdown has begun for the Bollywood Awards 2001, which is being held in New York on Saturday, April 28th 2001. Radio Sargam has followed the event closely this year, and continue to bring you the latest information so that you all know what to expect this year.
The latest additions to the all-star guest list are the budding young stars from the recently released movie 'American Desi'. For those who don't know, this is the Eros release that has done surprisingly well throughout North America, and reached the Top 25 on Variety's national box office charts. The mainstream media in the US have also become fond of the movie, with Fox News calling it "wonderful and charming with a winning cast," while The New York Times called the picture "an amusing comedy about the ways younger Indian-Americans keep their culture alive."
Members of the cast, including Deep Katdare, Sunita Param, Rizwan Manji, Ronobir Lahiri, and Aladdin will all be mingling with Bollywood stars on the big night. In addition to the stars, director Piyush Dinker Pandya and producer Gitesh Pandya will also appear at the Bollywood Awards representing the new generation of Indian filmmakers.
PRABHUDEVA TO MAKE HISTORY AT THE AWARDS
Another last minute addition to the guest list is dancer Prabhudeva, who will be entertaining an NRI audience for the very first time in his career, according to organizers. Kamal Dandona, the Chairman of the Bollywood Group, is truly excited about this superstar's onstage capabilities. "Prabhu Deva is certainly one-of-a-kind. He is India's dance king, no holds barred. People compare him to Michael Jackson - but I think that Prabhu Deva's talents even outshine those of the Gloved One himself". Dandona certainly knows what he is talking about in this regard; he pulled off the impossible back in 1999 by getting Jackson to appear at the inaugural Bollywood Awards event that year, and is a huge fan of his work. Prabhu Deva is best known for his appearance with Madhuri Dixit in the film "Pukar" as well as his show-stopping performance in "Humse Hai Muqabala." His dance extravaganza alongside Kajol in "Sapnay" was also legendary.

Pakistani Stars Moin Akhtar, Reema and Sajjad Ali will also electrify the audience, along with Kumar Biswajit from Bangladesh.
