Director Harry Baweja is back again with his latest movie 'Qayamat -
City Under Threat', which stars the likes of Ajay Devgan, Sunil Shetty,
Sanjay Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Isha Koppikar, Riya Sen and Chunky Pandey.
The soundtrack features nine songs in total and has been composed by Nadeem
Shravan, whilst Sameer has provided the lyrics. Qayamat's promos of the
movie are currently showing on the usual television channels…but how good
are the songs? Radio Sargam's music reviewer Goher Iqbal Punn takes gives
us his opinion!
1- Aitbaar Nahin (Abhijeet)
The soundtrack opens with a sad solo, Aitbaar Nahin Karna sung by Abhijeet.
The song starts with the dialogues in female voice, followed by the crystal
clear vocals of singer Abhijeet. He is somewhat let down by an average
background chorus. Amongst the instruments used by Nadeem Shravan in the
song, Jhankaar and drumming sticks out. However their arrangement is strictly
average. Sameer pens appropriate lyrics, which perfectly personify the
sad mood of the song. The visuals for the song feature Ajay Devgan, Sunil
Shetty and Neha. The direction seems good and its overall a decent track.
Rating: 5/10
2- Aitbaar Nahin (Abhijeet and Sadhana)
Yet another version of Aitbaar Nahin Karna emerges next. This time around
Abhijeet and Sadhana Sargam render the song, which starts with the dialogues
in male and female vocals. Abhijeet impresses with his sharp vocals and
Sadhana's clear and silken voice attracts too. The background chorus provides
able support as well. Lyrics by Sameer are appropriate, whilst Nadeem-Shravan's
work is average. Overall, the track makes a good hearing.
Rating: 6/10
3- Dil Chura Liya (Abhijeet and Kavita)
Next comes a romantic and melodious duet, Dil Chura Liya by Abhijeet and
Kavita Krishnamurthy. The song appears with male dialogues followed by
some rhythmical soft music, which is very comforting. Abhijeet and Kavita
handle the song with perfect ease and excel in the singing department.
The drumming and jhankaar sound amusing. The chorus seems good. Sameer
provides impressive lyrics here and Nadeem-Shravan's music evokes the
spirits well too. The song's visuals feature Ajay and Neha together. This
is easily one of the album's best tracks.
Rating: 7/10
4- Mere Dil Tu (Shaan and Mahalaxmi)
Shaan pairs up with Mahalaxmi Iyer to render a peppy and romantic number
Mere Dil Tu. This song too carries a beginning in the form of dialogues
in male and female vocals. Shaan impresses with his sweet and sharp vocals
whereas Mahalaxmi too lifts the spirits well. Background chorus is soothing
to the ears. Sameer pens good lyrics. The duo of Nadeem-Shravan composes
an attractive piece of music. Overall the entire song attracts the listeners.
Rating: 6/10
5- Mujhe Tumse (Kumar and Mahalaxmi)
Kumar Sanu pockets a slow tragic number along with Mahalaxmi Iyer. Mujhe
Tumse Mohabbat is as a delicious treat for music lovers. This one number
too emerges with male dialogues. Kumar Sanu, after a long time, catches
the breath with the remarkable delivery of his vocals. Mahalaxmi too manages
the rhythm well. Sameer pens tragic lyrics. And Nadeem-Shravan impress
with their immaculate music. This is a wonderful track.
Rating: 8/10
6- Qayamat (Hema and Sonu)
The title track, Qayamat Qayamat appears next in the album. Hema Sardesai
teams up with Sonu Nigam for the vocals. The song starts well with male
and female dialogues. Hema delivers her vocals in perfect husky style,
whereas Sonu also adopts a sexy style to suit the song's theme. The delivery
of Qayamat Qayamat by both the singers is top notch and the chorus is
also fantastic. Sameer's lyrics accurately signify the mood. The music
arranged by Ranjit Barot is full of energy. The entire product makes the
listener want to dance to the foot tapping beats. The song is currently
running on all musical channels featuring the sexy Isha Koppikar, whose
dance sequences impressive. Overall the song makes good hearing time and
again.
Rating: 8/10
7- Woh Ladki (Kumar and Alka)
Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik display their vocals in Woh Ladki Bahut Yaad.
Both the vocalists give complete justice to the song, which starts with
male and female dialogues. Amongst the instruments, dholki and duphli
impress. The chorus is good, whilst both Sameer's lyrics and Nadeem-Shravan's
music is average. The song has been appearing on all satellite channels
featuring Ajay and Neha. The direction seems good but it's only an average
track.
Rating: 5/10
8- Woh Ladki (Kumar Sanu)
Kumar Sanu showcases his skills in the sad version of Woh Ladki Bahut
Yaad. His work is excellent in this song and is the only thing making
it enjoyable. Unfortunately Sameer and Nadeem-Shravan's work is below
average in this version, making it a passable track.
Rating: 4/10
9- Yaar Pyar (Alisha and Abhijeet)
The versatile Abhijeet joins Alisha Chinoy for this romantic and catchy
track. Yaar Pyar Ho Gaya is the best song from this soundtrack. Like all
songs, this number too starts with both male and female dialogues. Both
Alisha and Abhijeet do a great job with their vocals. The sensuous Alisha
sings her portion with sharp, sexy and husky voice whereas Abhijeet supports
her fully. Sameer spreads his magic with magnificent lyrics. Music by
Nadeem-Shravan is excellent and raises the spirits. Overall an immaculate
and stupendous song.
Rating: 9/10
Qayamat is an enjoyable album and despite some disappointing tracks,
its overall impressive is above average, which should result is good sales.
Overall Rating: 6.5/10
