Hrithik Roshan enjoyed huge success last year thanks to Koi Mil Gaya. The selective actor returns once again in the much-awaited movie Lakshya, uniting with ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ director Farhan Akhtar for the very first time. The movie also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Preity Zinta. The movie’s soundtrack is already creating an impression with Bollywood fanatics around the world…so Radio Sargam decided to give its verdict on the Shankar-Ehsan-Loy album!

1) Main Aisa Kyon Hoon (Shaan)
“Main Aisa Kyon Hoon” is an opening track of the album. A solo by Shaan, it features an unique style of crooning with well-measured, balanced vocals. The pitch of his voice perfectly showcases his versatility as well. The chorus blends well with the musical instruments. Javed Akhtar provides youthful lyrics and there’s no denying the great composition provided by Shankar-Ehsan-Loy. The different and innovative musical score is worthy of repeated listens. The video is magnificently creative from all angles. Direction is first-rate and the choreography is truly eye-catching. Prabhu Deva’s work of dance direction impresses a lot. Hrithik too does excellently well with the brilliant support of fellow dancers. The video will definitely impress the young generation and the song is a certain chart-buster.
Rating: 9/10

2) Agar Main Kahoon (Udit and Alka Yagnik)
A soft romantic duet sung by the scholars of the Bollywood singing world, Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik is next. Udit provides a pleasant rendition and Alka is flawless. Lyrical maestro, Javed Sahib writes purely romantic poetry for his son’s flick and the words are moulded in a melodic composition arranged by S.E.L. Potentially a nice song, which will surely be appreciated by fans of love songs.
Rating: 8.5/10

3) Kitni Baatein (Hariharan and Sadhana Sargam)
The sober duet “Kitni Baatein” is next on the album, featuring Hariharan and Sadhana Sargam. It’s a good choice of vocalists, since Hariharan is like an expert in capturing a slow mood perfectly. Sadhana gives him ample support as well. Amongst the instruments, it’s the flute that sticks out and provides a tender sound. Javed Sahib’s lyrical beauty is impressive. S.E.L shine with work too. Overall the song makes good listening.
Rating: 7.5/10

4) Lakshya (Shankar Mahadevan)
Shankar Mahadevan is assigned a patriotic type of song, “Lakshya”. The title track seems to be situational and looks like a training song for the armed forces. A motivational track, it has the exceptionally and boisterously delivered vocals by Shankar. The chorus is energetic and appeals. The fusion of drums and tabla creates a cooling effect. Meaningful lyrics and actively composed music glide on you sharply. A splendid track, it raises the blood level in the veins.
Rating: 8/10

5) Victory (Instrumental)
An instrumental, “Victory” soothes with some extraordinarily arranged music. The feel of victory over the enemy is like a clear picture in this work.
Rating: 7/10

6) Kandoon Se (Shankar, Sonu, Roop Kumar Rathod, Kunal Gunjawala, Vijay Prakash and Hariharan)
Infusing a patriotic feel, S.E.L compose a decent song, “Kandoon Se” next. A number of vocalists have been hired to sing this track. Shankar Mahadevan, Sonu Nigam, Hariharan, Roop Kumar Rathod, Kunal Gunjawala and Vijay Prakash do perfectly well with their respective jobs. A modern-rhythmic in composition, the song has sweet sounds of violin in the background, which come in front with the beautiful appeal amongst the instruments. Javed Akhtar’s lyrics are simple yet impressive. S.E.L compliment Javed Sahib’s work with gorgeous composition. This song has potential but can stay with the listeners as long as the film is fresh with them.
Rating: 7/10

7) Separation (Instrumental)
Another instrumental the listeners hear on the album is “Separation”, which is melodious and a nice enough effort.
Rating: 7/10

8) Kitni Baatein…. Repeat Version (Hariharan and Sadhana Sargam)
The repeat version of “Kitni Baatein” ends up the album and holds the same joys as the earlier version. A good track to finish off the soundtrack.
Rating: 7.5/10

Overall:
An excellent and balanced album, Lakshya will appeal to all classes. It has mixed ingredients to make a feel good composition for all. Some of the numbers seem to be potentially award winning as most of the tracks of Hrithik’s movies usually do.
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
