Music Review: Karam (2005)

Producer: Pammi Baweja
Director: Harry Baweja
Cast: John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra
Music: Vishal-Shekhar
Lyrics: Vishal, Irshad Kamil and Dev Kohli
Singers: Alisha Chinoy, Sunidhi Chauhan, Vishal, Harshdeep, Pankaj Awasthi, Sonu Nigam and Mahalxmi Iyer
Audio: T-Series
Songs: 07

1) Tinka Tinka (Alisha Chinoy)
Alisha Chinoy starts the album with her husky and seductive vocals in ‘Tinka Tinka’. As usual, the popular singer entices the listeners with her heart-hitting rendition. Vishal and Irshad Kamil write some nice lyrics, which are then complimented by the superbly composed music by Vishal-Shekhar. Arranged in slow beats, the instruments gel well with the flow of the song. The visuals, displaying Priyanka Chopra on stage and behind the mike, look stunning. The opening builds up the heat perfectly.
Rating: 9/10

2) Tinka Tinka – Instrumental
The soft sounds of instruments is what a listener seeks in an instrumental version. This one carries the same too.
Rating: 8/10

3) Ishq Nachaya Kare (Sunidhi Chauhan)
Sunidhi Chauhan makes appearance with an upbeat number, ‘Ishq Nachaya Kere’. Sung in unblemished husky vocals, the song exerts a pull on you through the drumbeats too. Vishal writes good lyrics and then accompanies his fellow Shekhar in scoring the heavy and fast beats. The video, featuring the night club with dark sets and well-choreographed dance sequences, look great.
Rating: 8/10

4) Ishq Nachaya Kare – Instrumental
This instrumental of Ishq Nachaya Kare holds no appeal at all since the instruments’ arrangement seems sluggish.
Rating: 1/10

5) Le Jaa (Harshdeep and Vishal)
A haunting track, ‘Le Jaa’ appears next with Harshdeep and Vishal. Both the singers do a nice job by delivering the goods aptly. The song focuses on the value of life and the dawn of death. Vishal attracts with the pen as well since his written words are quite philosophical. The song is a treat musically also.
Rating: 8/10

6) Tera Hi Karam (Pankaj Awasthi)
Pankaj Awasthi pens, sings and composes ‘Tera Hi Karam’ that unfortunately for him sounds ordinary in all aspects. He fails to register any impact in any of his job. A down market fare.
Rating: 1/10

7) Koi Aisa Aalam (Sonu Nigam and Mahalaxmi Iyer)
The soundtrack ends up with the song, ‘Koi Aisa Aalam’. The beauty of this number lies in the sugar-coated singing done by Sonu Nigam and Mahalxmi Iyer, soothing chorus, Dev Kohli’s noteworthy lyrics and Vishal-Shekhar’s mellow music.
Rating: 8.5/10

Overall:
Putting aside two songs, the rest of the album is tour de force by Vishal-Shekhar, who always try to inject life in their soundtracks.
Overall Rating: 8/10
