MUSIC REVIEW: JURM (2004)

Music: Anu Malik and Anand Raj Anand
Lyrics: Dev Kohli and Rahat Indori

1) Nazrein Teri Nazrein (Adnan Sami)
Adnan Sami opens up the show with his heavy vocals in “Nazrein Teri Nazrein”. HIs rendition is certainly attractive. This love song carries an unidentified female’s saccharine crooning in the background. The lyrics by Dev Kohli and music by Anand Raj Anand are nice also. This is a superb start to the album. Let’s hope, we have more songs of this ilk ahead!
Rating: 9/10

2) Meri Chahtoon Ka Samundar (Abhijeet and Alka Yagnik)
The glorious voices of Abhijeet and Alka are featured in “Meri Chahtoon Ka Samundar”. A piece of whistling in the track sounds pleasant on ears. The chorus is good to hear too. Amongst the instruments used in this number, the jhankaar and violin make sweet fusion. The well worded lyrics written by Rahat Indori present romance to the fullest in this love duet. Anu Malik’s musical score appears rhythmic too. The number has been airing on all channels currently featuring Bobby Deol and Lara Dutta to do the honors.
Rating: 8/10

3) Aksar Yeh Hota Hai Pyaar Mein (Kunal Ganjawala)
“Aksar Yeh Hota Hai” tells the story of how one is deceived in love. Kunal is strictly okay but nothing to write home about. The chorus seems good. The arrangement of the instruments depicts routine style – no novelty at all! Dev Kohli’s lyrics are lackluster so is the music by Anand Raj Anand. You are dead on your feet after staying with this track.
Rating: 1.5/10

4) Main Yahan Tu Kahan (Abhijeet)
“Meri Chahtoon Ka Samundar” makes its appearance once again but now in a sad and slow version ‘Main Yahan Tu Kahan” sung by Abhijeet again who is always the musicians’ delight. He sings it with his usual gusto.
Rating: 8/10

5) Sanam O Sanam (Udit Narayan and Pamela Jain)
This track is about the commitments and complaints between lovers. Udit Narayan joins hands with Pamela Jain to heat up the scene. The chorus in the background creates a smile on your face and the violin becomes a special instrument to boost up your energies. Howevere the song soon starts loosening its grip over the listeners when the lyrics and music done by Dev Kohli and Anand Raj Anand respectively seem fuddy-duddy letting you press the forward button straightaway.
Rating: 4/10

6) Rabba Rabba (KK and Gayatri Iyer)
As soon as the song opens, you notice the ill-fated singing by the duo of KK and Gayatri Iyer. The nondescript works by the lyricist (Dev Kohli) and the musician (Anand Raj Anand) further hit the number downwards.
Rating: 1/10

7) Dil Dil – Bonus Track (Udit Narayan and Shreya Ghoshal)
The album completes its journey with the bonus track, “Dil Dil”, which has audible melodies and singing. Anu Malik and Rahat Indori impress to some extent - same goes for the song!
Rating: 6.5/10

Overall:
“Jurm” is a mixed bag. Some of the songs may appeal to listeners and find a decent place for themselves on the charts, but the rest of the songs fail to create an impression. Huge publicity may help the makers achieve good sales otherwise the soundtrack lacks potential to attract music buffs.
Overall Rating: 6/10
