JODI NO. 1 The number one jodi of Govinda and David Dhawan are back once again with, uh-hum, 'Jodi No. 1'. Chichi has paired up with Sanjay Dutt for the third time to make a remake of the classic 'Sholay', with the Dhawan touch. We have no idea why David Dhawan would choose to tamper with such perfection, but we'll soon find out if it worked. In the meantime lets check out the music. 'Laal Chunriya' is a nice song to begin with. The music is quite catchy and you might find yourself humming along after a few listens. The lyrics are not anything too original and your attention is kept by Alka Yagnik's ethereal voice and Sonu Nigam's zest. Abhijeet and Sunidhi Chauhan provide the vocals for 'Teri Bindiya'. This is an average song that sort of has a Punjabi feel to it. The lyrics are typical Dev Kohli-Dhawan style, in that although they make little sense, they are still fun and full of life. It sounds a little like 'Tara Ra Ra' from David Dhawan's 'Gharwali Baharwali'. Pratik Joseph both sings and wrote the lyrics for 'Ande Ka Phanda', a song all about eggs. What else can one say about a song completely devoted to eggs? It seems that newcomer Pratik Joseph has a strange obsession. To be fair the tune is kind of catchy and if you choose to listen to it more than once, you might even find that it grows on you. The title song, 'Jodi No. 1' is sung by Sonu Nigam, Kumar Sanu and Alka Yagnik, with the lyrics by Sudhakar Sharma. Its actually not such a bad song. Ok, so the lyrics aren't full of poetry or meaning, but it's got a hint of that Dhawan-Govinda masti that we all know and love. The following song, 'Tera Mera Dostana' is the obligatory friendship song, which features in almost all 2-hero movies. And in the same basic fashion like in all the other versions, Sonu Nigam and Kumar Sanu provide the vocals to sing of their love and devotion to one another…on behalf of the characters, that is! In one verse they even compare their jodi and dosti to that of Ram-Lakhan! Totally cheesy! 'Mast Mast' is an average song and once again is filled with Dhawan style masti. The huskiness of Sunidhi Chauhan's is a rather sensuous and pairs well with Sonu Nigam's versatile voice. The composition and lyrics are both average, but the song is listenable, if not req. Sonu Nigam follows with 'Meri Mehbooba'. This is a cute song with the lyrics telling how the hero has fallen for his mehbooba. The music is somewhat catchy, but it really does just sound like a typical David Dhawan song, with some mirch-masala added in. 'Akkh Lad Gayi' is the must-have Punjabi track with Hans Raj Hans providing the vocals. The thing is though it doesn't have much of a Punjabi sound or feel to it. There's not even any dhol or tumbi, the music just sounds like a pop song, and not a very good one at that. Hans Raj Hans does a good job as always, but the song is average at the best. The songs for 'Jodi No.1' are just about average. They style of the composition and lyrics are very typical of David Dhawan, so we know more or less what to expect before even listening to the soundtrack. There is nothing really original on the album - except for perhaps the lyrics to 'Ande Ka Phanda' - but is that really a good thing? Anyway, its all about fun and masti with David Dhawan and there really isn't anything here that we haven't heard before.
