Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla heads the cast of Jhankaar Beats, together
with a host of more 'low-key' players, including Sanjay Suri, Rahul Bose,
Rinke Khanna and Riya Sen. The film's posters have hit various Bollywood
internet sites and caught the eye of readers. Now lets find out whether
the soundtrack will help promote the film further.
THEME SONG:
Sudesh Bhosle gives us an idea of what to expect in the album. The song
has a very seventies feel to it and even has Bhosle impersonating legendary
music maestro RD Burman, with his "Mehbooba oh Mehbooba" method of singing
(from Sholay). Joined by a female vocalist and RD Burman's signature whistling,
the theme songs offers a foot tapping start to this album.
RATING: 6/10
SUNO NA:
Rising singer Shaan proves his capabilities with the song Suno Na. This
sweet romantic number oozes romance and Shaan does his job completely,
handling a beautiful solo, accompanied by truly imaginative instrumental
work with guitars and the sparkling stars.
RATING: 5/10
BOSS KAUN HA:
Amit Kumar lends his vocals in the song Boss Kaun Hai and its nice to
hear him back following a short break. Vishal and Shekar (the music composers)
join him in the song. It's honestly quite hard to term this a great song
because it acts more like commentary on the life and times of RD Burman!
Is it informative? Yes! Is it a memorable and likable song? Sadly not!
RATING: 2/10
JO GAYA VOH GAYA:
KK and Vishal team up for Jo Gaya Voh Gaya, which can be termed as a "stage
song". The listener can tell that this track is going to take place on
some kind of stage. The music reminds us of the good old eighties, bringing
back images of Mithun Chakroborthy when he had just come into the film
industry in "Disco Dancer"! A strictly average tune though!
RATING: 4/10
SAHI HAIN RE:
Popular singer Udit Narayan has suddenly turned quite choosy when selecting
the songs he wants to sing. Sahi Hain Re is a tapori number with the chorus
that tells us about Bombay and Mumbai. It's a run-of-the-mill type of
song and perhaps Udit Narayan needs to become even more selective because
he can do a lot better than this song!
RATING: 3/10
TU AASHIQUE HAIN
KK performs the next stage number for the album, Rishi and Deep once again
show their talent on stage.
RATING: 5/10
JAB KABHI
KK shows his talent with this non-instrumental song, which proves a highlight
for the album. KK and the chorus do great justice to the lyrics. Jab Kabhi
is another sweet romantic number and KK shows his forte after the successful
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Mahalaxmi Iyer accompanies the song as a shadow
singer, which means her talents are rather wasted. The track features
amazing guitar work accompanied with the drums.
RATING: 8/10
HUMEIN TUMSE PYAR KITNA
Kudrat was the name of the original film in which Kishore Kumar sang for
Rajesh Khanna, now over 20 years later Kishoreda's son recreates the magic.
Amit Kumar and KK are joined by the Chorus to give us another chance to
express what RD Burman made available to us. The only downfall of this
composition is that the music is too fast for the mellow lyrics.
RATING: 4/10
RUK RUK
This is a fast and peppy number with RD Burman's influence once again
very apparent. Ruk Ruk is definitely a song that will get your toes tapping.
RATING: 4/10
TERA MUSKHURANA:
Shaan gets together with the chorus and adds spice to another fast paced
number. It's a song where the guy tells the girl his feelings and lets
just hope the girl feels the same way!
RATING: 6/10
OVERALL:
On the whole the album is a good enough effort, which will no doubt make
its fan listen over and over again. But the lyrics in some songs are a
letdown. The song about RD Burman "Boss Kaun Hai" is not needed in the
album. KK really shines through his duet with Mahalaxmi, which is a real
treat to all the romantics.
