The audience always expects something special from the soundtracks of
Yash Raj Films. The production company have once again hired music composers
Jatin-Lalit for the forthcoming romantic comedy Hum Tum starring Saif
Ali Khan and Rani Mukherjee. This time around Prason Joshi has written
the lyrics whilst the lists of vocalists includes the likes of Shaan,
Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan and Sonu Nigam. Radio Sargam gives its verdict
on the album…
1) Ladki Kyon Na Jaane Kyon (Shaan and Alka Yagnik)
“Ladki Kyon Na Jaane Kyon” opens the album with Shaan and
Alka Yagnik on vocals. Shaan perfectly modulates his voice to sound like
Saif Ali Khan and Alka flawlessly makes her vocals fresher. A Ched-Chaad
song, its instrumental arrangement is excellent. Prason Joshi’s
naughty lyrics grow on you easily. The upbeat music makes the track lively.
The video of the song, starring Saif and Rani teasing each other, is attractive.
Beautiful choreography, catchy locales and good direction impress you
as well. The number is already proving its worth on the charts these days.
Rating: 8/10
2) Yara Yara (Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik)
“Yara Yara” sounds reminiscent of the popular track “Ho
Gaya Hai Tumko Tu Pyaar Sajna” from the earlier Yash Raj blockbuster
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. This entertaining song has the soothing vocals
of Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik, who catch the rhythm brilliantly with
their rich experience in singing. Prason Joshi with lyrics and Jatin-Lalit
with music (especially the wonderful drumming) are extraordinarily great.
The song is simply fantastic.
Rating: 8.5/10
3) Chak De (Sonu Nigam and Sadhana Sargam)
Following next is a track targeted largely at the youth market. “Chak
De”, a lively fresh song features Sonu Nigam and Sadhana Sargam.
Sonu is exceptionally good and Sadhana also attracts the listeners with
her gorgeous voice. The instruments in the background are decent, although
they don’t have the effect necessary to truly create an impact.
The lyrics by Prason don’t create an impact either, although Jatin-Lalit
do a little better with their efforts. The visuals on air focusing on
Saif and Rani impress with attractive piece of direction.
Rating: 6.5/10
4) Hum Tum (Alka Yagnik and Babul Supriyo)
A melodious and romantic title track is next, featuring Alka Yagnik and
Babul Supriyo. The song appeals a lot. Alka croons with expertise and
maturity. Babul, at his end, provides ample support. The softly arranged
instruments in the background create an enjoyable rhythm. The chorus also
sounds sweet and the well-conveyed lyrics are spellbinding. The music
is distinctively, making this the best song on the album.
Rating: 9/10
5) Gore Gore (Alka Yagnik)
The listener is offered another ‘Ched-Chaad’ song on the album.
“Gore Gore” is a lively number rendered by Alka Yagnik who
manages the vocals perfectly, sounding like a teenager. The background
chorus does not have much appeal and the strictly average lyrics by Prason
Joshi leave no impression. The down market music does not excel either.
This ordinary song suddenly lowers the graph of the superb (till yet)
soundtrack.
Rating: 3/10
6) Mere Dil Wich Hum Tum (Veronica and Juggy D)
Rising UK music star Rishi Rich produces the next track, “Mere Dil
Wich”, featuring British Asian singers Veronica and Juggy D. Both
the vocalists try to infuse some life in the song but fall flat in their
efforts. This bhangra-popish song has decent music, although the lyrics
are poorly composed. Like the previous track “Gore Gore”,
this number too ruins the melodious mood you had developed with the earlier
songs. A lifeless song just needs a skip button.
Rating: 2/10
7) Hum Tum (Instrumental)
The instrumental of “Hum Tum” is pleasant on ears. A nice
listen for fans of instrumental music.
Rating: 8.5/10
Overall:
Yash Raj Films are largely popular for their melodious and catchy music.
Continuing the tradition with “Hum Tum”, the production company
compel listeners to buy this soundtrack and enjoy it to the fullest. The
veterans Jatin-Lalit make a perfect team with the lyricist Prason Joshi
scoring highly too.
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
