HUM KISISE KUM NAHIN (2002) Producer: Afzal Khan David Dhawan brings together the big guns (Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Aishwarya Rai & Sanjay Dutt), for a comic caper that is plagiarized straight from the Hollywood scrapbook, the Robert De Niro gangster-comedy 'Analyze This'. Sanjay Dutt is the gangster that is having problems doing his job, so he recruits mad doctor Amitabh Bachchan, to help him in his problems. Sanjay falls in love with Doc's sister, the witty but gorgeous Aishwarya Rai. But, there is a slight problem… Ajay Devgan. He also loves Aishwarya Rai. What happens? Who wins the girl? What does big bro Amitabh do when the gangster's 'baraat' arrives at his doorstep? All will be revealed when you watch the film. For now lets take a look at the music… Anu Malik has been given the job to produce a soundtrack that matches the film's subject and theme - comedy! He's more happy doing romantic and dance numbers, so he must have had a tiring task to come up with seven songs for this flick, keeping the serious romantic influence away from any songs. Believe me, it's very difficult to do that, when 24/7 you are tangled up in Pyar, Ishq and Mohabbat! 'Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai', 'Munna Mobile', 'Kya Kehna', and 'Dulhe Raja' are all situational numbers. All have that comedy feel you get associated with a David Dhawan film. Out of the quartet, 'Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai' is probably the most comedic, as it has a Amitabh Bachchan sounding Anu Malik trying to find out what is going on with his sister and this other guy. Anu sounds terrific, Alka Yagnik and Sonu Nigam play along to a string, a very funny number. The other three songs have all been picturized on Sanjay Dutt, hopefully showing the gangster's tender loving side. 'Kya Kehna' will be one to watch when the film releases, as Amitabh Bachchan and Sanjay Dutt will be seen dancing together for the first time on-screen. Vinod Rathod and Udit Narayan have sung well. We knew Anu could not resist one romantic number; 'O Sapno Ke Saudagar' is not at all good. It's very bleak and sounds as though it was composed as a rush job. Lyrics are bad, music is atrocious, and Anuradha and Sonu sound more like mother and sonr, than lovers on a rainy day! Romance and comedy is mixed within 'Main Sohni Tu Mahiwal', again it's Anuradha and Sonu, more rubbish! Vinod Rathod also joins them, more rubbish to dispose of! This soundtrack is no 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai', but it is slightly better than other recent soundtracks from Anu Malik. Singing is average; Sonu Nigam and Udit Narayan could have done slightly well. Anand Bakshi's lyrics fit in well with the music. It's a nice listen to - nothing more than that. Try and avoid buying it for wooing your lover with. Stick to 'Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai' for that!
