After the huge success of “Tere Naam” and “Baghban”,
Salman Khan’s fans are eagerly awaiting his upcoming action flick
“Garv - Pride and Honour”. The macho man plays a cop this
time around alongside Shilpa Shetty and Arbaaz Khan. Whilst Sajid-Wajid
are the music directors, Anu Malik also makes his appearance as a guest
composer for one song. Lyricist Jalees Sherwani is too joined by the two
guest lyricists Shabbir Ahmed and Dev Kohli. Radio Sargam gives its verdict…
1) Hum Tumko Nigahon Mein (Udit Narayan and Shreya Ghosal)
The romantic duet, “Hum Tumko Nigahon Mein” opens the album.
The team of Udit Narayan and Shreya Ghosal provide vocals. There is absolutely
no need to discuss the vocal qualities of Udit Narayan since he has proved
himself time after time. Shreya is becoming a fantastic singer. The dholak,
violin, jhankaar and flute create a cooling effect on the ears. Shabbir
Ahmed writes commendable romantic lyrics, which are creatively composed
in good rhythm by the duo of Sajid-Wajid. The track is already doing well
in the charts.
Rating: 8/10
2) Fariyaad (Sonu Nigam)
The song ”Fariyaad” is next on the album. Its been sung flawlessly
by Sonu Nigam, who has a knack of singing sad songs marvellously. The
chorus adds to the effect of the song too. Shabbir’s lyrics are
supportive and Sajid-Wajid’s composition is sober. A good companion
to effectively create a sad mood.
Rating: 7/10
3) Dum Mast Mast (Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan)
Next comes a Sufi track, “Dum Mast Mast”, rendered in high-pitched
vocals by Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan. The song has an energetic
feel and both singers impress with their sharp renditions. The lyrics
penned by Jalees Sherwani go perfectly with the theme of the song. Arranged
in fast beats, the musical score by Sajid-Wajid is impressive. This is
a good effort by the entire team.
Rating: 7.5/10
4) Soniye (Sukhwinder Singh and Shreya Ghosal)
It is becoming traditional for Hindi films to have a bhangra track and
Garv has the song “Soniye”. The fabulous singer Sukhwinder
Singh gives an electric touch to the song. Shreya only makes a brief appearance.
The chorus is decent but nothing special. The lyrics do not hold any distinction.
This plain mediocre music has been composed by Sajid-Wajid. Only the singers
grow with the listeners otherwise the feel of the song is strictly average.
Rating: 3/10
5) Marhaba (Sunidhi Chauhan and Zubin)
The guest composer Anu Malik composes a fast-paced number “Marhaba”.
The track features Sunidhi Chauhan and Zubin (who provides good support
with his brilliant crooning throughout the song). The song is undoubtedly
a rehash of “Yeh Raat” from the movie Aks (composed by Anu
Malik himself). Although its well-composed, well-written (by Dev Kohli
this time) and skilfully sung (by Sunidhi Chauhan), the number lacks appeal
mainly due to this very reason. Anu ought to think deeply before using
earlier tunes since it can harm the good-headed efforts of the team.
Rating: 6/10
6) Khaaya Piya (Vinod Rathod and Sunidhi Chauhan)
The tapori number “Khaaya Piya” is next. A situational track,
it has Vinod Rathod and Sunidhi Chauhan for the singing department. Their
uninspiring vocals are disappointing. However that’s just the start
of the problems. The chorus, lifeless lyrics and music carry no weight
either. This is completely avoidable stuff.
Rating: 2/10
7) Saiyan More Saiyan (Sunidhi Chauhan)
Another item song appears in the list focusing on Sunidhi Chauhan. Unfortunately
she does utterly terrible work with the vocals. It’s a tedious rendition,
ruined further by ordinary lyrics that have no appeal for the listeners.
The music by Sajid-Wajid fails to impress. This is a completely forgettable
song.
Rating: 2/10
8) Tera Hai Deewana Dil (Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal)
The album ends its journey with a love duet, “Tera Hai Deewana Dil”.
Sung by Kumar Sanu and Anuradha Paudwal, the song does not appeal due
to the strictly average vocals of the singers. The music does not attract
either and the lyrics seem like they were written in haste. The number
is flat from all aspects.
Rating: 2/10
Overall:
Its difficult to predict whether a Sajid-Wajid soundtrack is worth buying
or not. Sometimes their music works well and sometimes they fail. Unfortunately
this soundtrack leans more towards a failure.
Overall Rating: 5.5/10
