Although Bollywood's latest love story 'Chupke Se' features unknown names
infront of the camera, its soundtrack involves some of the industry's
biggest musical names, such as Gulzar (lyricist), Vishal Bhardwaj (musician),
Asha Bhosle (singer), Udit Narayan (singer) and Daler Mehdi (singer).
However will the strong ensemble result in a quality soundtrack? Radio
Sargam's Goher Iqbal Punn finds out!
1- Kehte Kehte (Asha Bhosle and Lucky Ali)
The soundtrack begins with the song Kehte Kehte, which is a melodious
and classy duet by Lucky Ali and the legendary Asha Bhosle. The soft rhythmical
beginning of the song easily grows on ears. Asha catches the rhythm very
well (as usual) whilst Lucky provides ample support with his soft voice.
Vishal's arrangement of musical instruments, especially the violin, together
with Gulzar's sensitive lyrics maximizes the romantic feel. The song has
been running on all usual music channels recently and features the likes
of Masumi and Zulfi in the lead dancing slowly as per the mood of the
song. Overall the song is melodious and tempts the listener to press the
repeat button over and over again.
Rating: 8/10
2- Kafi Nahin Jo (Alka Yagnik)
The next track, Kafi Nahin Jo, is a fun-filled solo by Alka Yagnik. The
singer renders it in an energetic style, which should make an impressive
with the listeners. Amongst the instruments… jhankaar, baja and piano
stick out most. Gulzar sahib successfully shows creativity in his lyrics,
however Vishal does not impress with his average composition, which makes
the overall effort strictly middle of the road.
Rating: 5/10
3- Jeele Jeele (Ranjit Barot, K.K and Alka Yagnik)
The trio of Ranjit, K.K and Alka sings another fun-filled number titled
Jeele Jeele. The track carries the philosophy of living life to the fullest.
It starts with male vocals, which unfortunately do not impress. Ranjit
and KK do not create a good impression and Alka does not carry the weight
as a vocalist either. The background chorus is below average whereas the
arrangement of instruments does not meet expectations. Gulzar pens average
lyrics. Vishal seems tired and so arranges passable tunes for the song.
Overall the song is below average.
Rating: 3/10
4- Dildara (Gayatri Iyer and Zubeen)
An entertaining and love song, Dildara features the singer Gayatri Iyer
with Zubeen. The high-pitched vocals of Zubeen might prove tiresome for
the listener, although Gayatri catches the breath with her sweet vocals.
The jhankaar and drumming take the lead amongst the instruments. Abbass
Tyrewala knits creative lyrics, whilst Ranjit Barot scores a gorgeous
composition. Overall the song is good hearing.
Rating: 6/10
5- Koi To Hai (Udit and Alka)
The experienced pair of Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik renders a love duet,
Koi To Hai with much oomph. Udit as usual seems in his true elements and
showcases his vocals perfectly, whilst Alka manages the rhythm accurately
as well. Gulzar, by using his sensitive-natural and romantic mind, pens
catchy lyrics. Vishal on the contrary designs melodious tunes, which gel
well with the lyrics and the vocals respectively. The song is impressive.
Rating: 7.5/10
6- Kajrare Naina Wali (Daler Mehdi)
Daler Mehdi wraps up the soundtrack with the sweet and energetic solo,
Kajrare Naina. This is the best song from the album and will be loved
by fans of such music. The song is about the praise of a girl's beauty.
Daler's usual electrifying and energetic vocals boil the blood in body.
The drumming and jhankaar impress a lot amongst the instruments. Daler's
delivery of "Naina Tere Naina" catches the breath. Gulzar attracts with
his fantastic lyrics, which seem to be true fit for this type of song.
Vishal composes classy music too. Overall the song is an active piece
of music.
Rating: 8.5/10
Over, Chupke Se is a mixed bag. Although its let down by some forgettable
songs, there are some more likable tracks for the listener's pleasure.
Overall Rating: 7.0
