The Bollywood production company Pritish Nandy Communications are hoping
to strike gold at the box office with their latest release Chameli. The
forthcoming film, which stars Kareena Kapoor opposite Rahul Bose, tackles
the subject of prostitution in India. Whilst the industry awaits the box
office verdict of the film, its already obvious that music composer Sandesh
Sandilya has produced a quality soundtrack for the film. The album features
eight songs in total and marks the debut of lyricist Irshad Kalim. Radio
Sargam checks out the soundtrack and gives its verdict…
(1) Bhaage Re Mann (Sunidhi Chauhan)
The soundtrack beautifully opens with a soft melodious song "Bhaage Re
Mann" rendered brilliantly by Sunidhi Chauhan. This solo begins with a
gorgeous piece of a tender music. Sunidhi outshines in the song and lends
her soothing voice flawlessly. The pleasant fusion of flute, drumming
and Jhankaar works well. The spellbinding lyrics by Irshad Kalim glide
perfectly and leave the listener thirsting for more. Sandesh Sandilya
scores a decent and mellifluous composition. The song has been airing
on all usual satellite channels for some days featuring Kareena Kapoor
and Rahul Bose. The number is thoroughly enjoyable for the lovers of rhythmical
music.
Rating: 8.5/10
(2) Jaane (Udit Narayan and Sunidhi Chauhan)
Next in line we have the melodious and slow romantic duet 'Jaane' delivered
excellently by Udit Narayan and Sunidhi Chauhan. Udit's delightful voice
and Sunidhi's unblemished rendition depicts their talent. The flawless
lyrics by Irshad Kalim craft philosophy for the listeners. Sandesh Sandilya's
well-orchestrated composition is soft on ears and leaves the listeners
frantically yearning for more. Two other versions of this track also appear
on the album, and surprisingly all three versions provide the highlights
of the album. Overall this intoxicated duet of Udit and Sunidhi is majestic
all the way.
Rating: 9/10
(3) Sajna Ve Sajna (Sunidhi Chauhan)
'Sajna Ve Sajna' is a beautiful solo, once again featuring Sunidhi Chauhan.
It's a folk type of song and Sunidhi's pleasant rendition is superb. The
delivery of "O Sajna" in a male voice is boisterous. The dholak amongst
the instruments provides comforts to the ears. Irshad Kalim writes magical
lyrics. Sandesh Sandilya seems ordinary here with this composition. There
seems no innovation at all in his musical score. He repeats this number
also next on the soundtrack.
Rating: 6/10
(4) Sajna Ve Sajna: Repeat Version (Sunidhi Chauhan)
The repeat version carries a similar mood and feeling as the first version.
Rating: 6/10
(5) Soul of Chameli (Instrumental)
"Soul of Chameli" is an instrumental, which is laced with the flawlessly
arranged music by the composer. The orchestration seems decent and deserves
applause as well.
Rating: 7/10
(6) Jaane (Sunidhi Chauhan)
The second version of "Jaane" features Sunidhi Chauhan as the solo vocalist
of the track. Sunidhi sings the song mellifluously. The baja and drumming
make their mark amongst the instruments used. The philosophical lyrics
written by Irshad Kalim are impressive, whereas Sandesh Sandilya does
a fairly good job by scoring a genuine composition.
Rating: 9/10
(7) Yeh Lamha (Sunidhi Chauhan)
Next we have a sentimental solo "Yeh Lamha" sung again by Sunidhi Chauhan.
The song begins well with Sunidhi's voice. The piano and drumming excel
most amongst the instruments arranged by the musician. The guest lyricist
Prof. R.N. Dubey surprises with his creative genius by penning the lyrics
that represent nature and its works in particular. Sandesh scores gorgeous
composition, which glides easily on ears.
Rating: 8/10
(8) Jaane (Sunidhi Chauhan and Javed Ali)
The third version of "Jaane" wraps up the album beautifully. Sunidhi Chauhan
and Javed Ali this time join hands together to render this rhythmical
romantic number. The perfect blend of the duo brings us a pleasurable
treat, which is priceless. Both the vocalists do an impeccable job with
the vocals. Special mention is due for Javed Ali who catches the breath
with his marvelously managed style of singing. Irshad Kalim's lyrics are
spellbinding and carry good weight. The unblemished composition by Sandesh
helps the listeners hit the repeat button over and over again. A stupendous
number, which is superb on all levels.
Rating: 9/10
Such a remarkable soundtrack that can move smoothly and mellifluously
on all types of ears. Sandesh Sandilya struggled boisterously and honestly
to compose such a brilliant and melodious soundtrack. He has done a splendid
job by scoring the finest composition of his career. Chameli's soundtrack
is sure to bring awards for the team once the movie released.
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
